Skiers

Going to take my son skiing this winter. He has never been before, but he is 16, fairly athletic - I don't expect it will take him too long to figure it out.
Having said that, where should we go?

WinterPlace WV - Lots of easy slopes to learn on; longass drive from where you live.
Sugar - 1 bunny slope filled with 1000 people; 1 easy slope with chairlift filled with 2000 people
Beech - Sse Sugar
Cataloochee - highest priced 2 chitty bunny slopes
Wolf Ridge - 2 bunny slopes not as crowded 1 lift that drops off half way up and at the top. No reason he couldn't get down this mtn from half up on his 1st day. Can find cheap tickets on myperks.com
Appalachian - never been but looks like snow bowl. Might be a good place to start.
If I were you I'd go on a Mon - Thurs. Less crowded, weekday rates, day out of school

but go mid week. Lines get long on weekends. or stay on blacks all day. But great village and best slopes in mid-atlantic imo.

There is no point in driving further than Beech or Sugar

to go to Winterplace. It's basically the same thing.
Snowshoe is def worth it. Best skiing on the east coast probably.

Sugar so I get the draw from southerners. Two lodges, taking multiple ski lifts to get from one side of the mtn to another. You don't do that in NC anywhere.

But it's still about a minute run from top to bottom, just like Sugar and Beech.

30 minutes to an hour from what I can tell on google maps, with it being just off the interstate and all. Those crappy little mountain roads in NC take forever. Last time I went skiing was Snowshoe probably 5 years ago. We passed by Winterplace and one of the guys on the trip (who was the best skier on the trip) said it is where he earned his chops.

Does MYF not have ski trips any more?...

If'n I was you, I would start in Boone and work up from there.
Appalachian is where we used to go, as you may remember. 1 bunny slop with rope tow, I medium slope in middle and used to be a harder one to the right from the same lift.
Wife-of took kids-of there a few yrs back and they had a good time.
Probably pretty good snow there right now.

Anywhere Colorado, but A-Basin has the best ski school in the country. Just pay the money, get away from the crowds and teach him in real snow. Plus, the trip is fun and the beer just tastes better at that altitude.

I ain't ####### up a perfectly good Colorado trip by bringing family along.
Also, i did a half day at A-basin, and was loving it, when the other people I was with decided they wanted to go back to breck. I think we drove out there and did 3 runs. i was pizzed, but they was driving
