In less vague terms, some dudes just have a thing for redheads, other dudes see red and think, "meh"; I, myself, fall into the former category. While Ms. Nichols isn't smokin' hot, she might be able to throw the beav like a champ...you don't really know these things if you don't try. Whereas, I'm not terribly attracted to blondes, a loud blonde chick that talked incessantly about basketball would prolly get a "meh" from me.

See, for a redhead to be hawt, she's got to be super-hawt. Otherwise, she's just meh. Kinda like vinegar-pepper BBQ. For it to be good, it's super good. If bad, it's bad. Now mustard based is like blondes. Darn near any mustard based BBQ will taste good. It's harder to screw up good BBQ with mustard based sauce. BUT, if you want the BEST BBQ, you have to hit up the vinegar-pepper BBQ to get the best of the best.

Sticking with your analogy, bad vinegar-based BBQ is really bad. But once it steps over that "good" line, it's really, good. There's very rarely any just "meh" vinegar-based BBQ.
The problem with mustard-based sauce is that there's just too many wannabe mustard-based sauces out there that are really something else.
...on second thought, I'm not sure that last one works...
