I wish someone with time would go back the past 5 years...

and see which of the 5 big conferences has the best neutral site record against other big 5 conference teams ranked higher or within in 5 places of themselves in the poll.

For example....if #15 UGA beat # 19 WIS in a bowl game, that would be a win for SEC.
(UGA beat a team ranked within 5 spots of themselves at a neutral site)
if # 11 SC beat # 21 Neb in a bowl that would NOT count(beyond 5 games ranking in poll)
if # 17 FSU beat #5 OSU in ATL kick off game, that would be a win for ACC. (FSu beat a team ranked higher than them)

This would be an interesting study.

I think it would say a lot.

SEC BRAGS about beating ranked teams but most of them are their won teams and then teams ranked in polls but not nearly as high as them. The real test is when you beat a team ranked higher or fairly equal in polls, from another conference.

Please some one do this.

Thanks.

Ok, here goes... From 2009-2013, SEC schools went 14-4 against non-conference teams ranked within five spots, on a neutral field. HOWEVER, SEC schools were upset four times by teams ranked more than five spots lower than them. So, the record is really 14-8. In only 3 of these games, the SEC team was the lower-ranked team, and won. Here’s a breakdown by school [Keep in mind Mizzou and aTm joined in 2012]:

Alabama: 4-1
Arkansas: 2-1
Auburn: 1-1
LSU: 2-2
Ole Miss: 1-0
Miss St: 0-0
TX A&M: 2-0

Florida: 1-1
Georgia: 0-1
Kentucky: 0-0
Mizzou: 1-0
Scar: 0-1
Tenn: 0-0
Vandy: 0-0

This just illustrates what we already knew- The SEC as a whole isn't that dominant. The West, admittedly, is pretty tough (Alabama in particular), while the lEast actually has a LOSING record in these games (way to represent, Coots!) By the way, the 8 losses break down as follows:

ACC - 3 (FSU vs. Auburn, '13; FSU vs. Scar, '10; CLEMSON! vs. LSU, '12)
Big Ten - 3 (Penn St vs. LSU, '09; Ohio St vs. Arkansas '10; Nebraska vs. UGA '13)
Big 12 - 1 (Oklahoma vs. Alabama, '13)
Big East - 1 (Louisville vs. Florida, '12)

So there you have it. Certain teams in the conference back up their talk. The rest are simply riding on the coattails.
