This Thanksgiving, I have a lot to be thankful for

Nov 27, 2019, 12:34 PM

and a lot to be mindful of in the future.

I've had a blessed life, and I was probably due for a bit of rough seas at some point, just based on the law of averages. Going through a divorce 5 years ago, getting remarried to Mumbette, losing a stepson to an accidental overdose, almost losing a stepdaughter to risky behavior, Mumbette suddenly going into liver failure, then getting a transplant so quickly, and changing jobs in the midst of all of that.

I'm not humblebragging for sympathy at all; lots of people have much worse stories, and I am grateful to have come through all this with things on a (cautious) uptick.

The stepdaughter has turned her life around and is adulting at a babysteps level, Mumbette has pulled out of the depression caused by the loss of her son and the near-loss of her daughter, and we are all having a nice Thanksgiving dinner together tomorrow as a family. This was inconceivable just a few months ago.

So now you can all see why I haven't been around the Lounge much in the past couple of years. I've maintained my membership, because I was hopeful that one day I'd be able to come back and get reacquainted with the newcomers and oldtimers alike.

Happy, Happy Thanksgiving to you all, and best wishes for a great Christmas!

Same to you, feller.

I did the same thing when my mom passed 5 years ago. A break from, well, everything, is therapeutic and helps you reorganize and reprioritize after upheaval.

It helps us all to hear good stories about each other - knowing there are real people with real issues and struggles, but with positive outcomes.

T's and P's for your families continued good times and hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving!
