Been gone a week...

Have we determined whether unmarked federal law enforcement and/or military contractors detaining civilians inside the US is a bad thing or not?

A lot of discussion. I think we determined it was OK if the protestors were demeaning the US inside US borders. I think this week the focus will be parents marching their 3-6 year children around with "colorful" (see what I am doing here) signs to protest Trump and the federal government.

That ended when you took off. I'm checking the news to see it it restarted upon your return. I may have a working theory sometime today.

It is funny how the news reports unmarked federal agents

kidnapping citizens off the street. Pelosi references Trump's "Storm Troopers" (Who would that be, Nancy? What federal law enforcement agency that you vote to fund is the President's private Republican Army?). When the CBP says that that was them, that they had insignias on their shirts identifying them, that they brought the one person (and I've only read the one instance, although maybe others have read more?) in for questioning as a suspect in a police officer assault and brought him to a facility because a MOB was convening on them where they found him, and that he was released after refusing to answer questions. This is the reality...and we know that because the media stopped probing it. The story wasn't what they wanted so they are going to ignore it and let this narrative of "Storm Troopers pulling people off the streets" linger on its own. So the only part that was real was an unmarked vehicle, which apparently can be spun to be something malicious even though they've been around for decades and mobs are lighting LEO vehicles on fire and throwing things at them.

And all of our most vigilant defenders of the Second Amendment are advocating for the American people taking up arms to defend themselves.

Well, the sane people who support our Constitution have agreed it's a bad thing. But the usual resident authoritarian admirers are tying themselves in knots to somehow justify it.

The rioters can be combated without using secret federal troops dressed in camo and snatching the peaceful people off the streets. Or firing tear gas and rubber bullets--intentionally--at reporters.
Although I loved the part where protesters used leaf blowers to send the tear gas back at the feds. Bet that made ya mad, didn't it?
Also, supporting the federal government overriding local governments to engage in law enforcement is a LEFTIST opinion.
Cheers.

"The rioters can be combated without using secret federal troops dressed in camo and snatching the peaceful people off the streets."
Okay. The federal troops weren't secret, as we discussed. And if LEOs see a person that has been identified as a possible suspect in an assault on a LEO, should they ignore them? If there is an angry mob descending on them where they encounter that individual, should they just leave? Should they let the mob decide how they enforce the law? After the individual was questioned and released, what did he say? Was he roughed up? Was something done inappropriately? How long was he kept? Any longer than necessary to realize that he wasn't going to be cooperative? How many times has that happened? More than once, because I can only find the one instance?
"Or firing tear gas and rubber bullets--intentionally--at reporters."
Unquestionably any verified instance of targeting the media should be met with severe consequences. And I don't know what specific instance you are referring to but I did read a story about the "protesters" wearing shirts that say "Press" and holding up fake press credentials to mock the LEO's who are not allowed to target the press. Any thoughts on that tactic, because to me it seems egregious and clearly shows no regard for the safety of the media.
"Although I loved the part where protesters used leaf blowers to send the tear gas back at the feds. Bet that made ya mad, didn't it?"
I'm pretty numb at this point, so hard to say it made me "mad", but yes I don't like that (beyond my natural inclination to admire creativity). But I see the role of LEO as enforcing laws, maintaining peace and protecting law-abiding citizens. I don't support rioters. I'm weird like that. And I see tear gas as a non-lethal tool to de-escalate unlawful situations. Take it away, and LEO has one less non-lethal tool for controlling the situation, which either means they lose control or they use a more severe solution.
"Also, supporting the federal government overriding local governments to engage in law enforcement is a LEFTIST opinion."
Totally agree under normal circumstances. But when the mayor of a city is in the crowd of people that are attacking federal buildings, we are in unusual times. The local government leaders are literally WITH the groups rioting, vandalizing and looting. And yes, I realize "it's a peaceful protest" - it always is for a couple hours so that CNN can make that claim with a straight face before the wackos start setting things on fire.
