How many statins are you on?

May 29, 2019, 10:55 AM

Not sure if your doc told you this or not, but high cholesterol does not always equal heart disease.

https://www.nhs.uk/news/heart-and-lungs/study-says-theres-no-link-between-cholesterol-and-heart-disease/

https://www.students4bestevidence.net/cholesterol-and-heart-disease-whats-the-evidence/

Also, heart disease is a side effect of being human. Mummies with diets high in fish oil and low in fat were found to have atherosclerosis.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/kristinakillgrove/2019/01/24/heart-disease-found-in-16th-century-greenland-mummies/#388463e72c74

Genetics play a bigger role in dying from a heart attack than probably anything else.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm on a statin, doc says I'll be on it for life.

May 29, 2019, 11:10 AM

And I agree that cholesterol and many other predictive factors are largely meaningless.

My cholesterol was borderline high, had low blood pressure, no significant family history of heart disease or heart attacks, was not obese (barely overweight), no diabetes, and was in decent physical shape. Yet I had a heart attack less than a week shy of my 52nd birthday.

The #1 predictor of heart attacks, and the only one that is statistically proven, is having had a heart attack. Which means that all of these other factors are now meaningful to me as a predictor. Anything I do that helps my overall general health helps prevent future issues. And because I've got two stents in my heart the makeup of the blood flowing through my heart is much more of a concern.

May 29, 2019, 1:59 PM

that means you're not sechsing her?

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The drugs won't lower it that low alone.

May 29, 2019, 12:31 PM [ in reply to WEIGHT A COTTAM MINUTE. You came on the TNET ]

And a saturated/trans fat and cholesterol heavy diet will neutralize the effect of the statin.

The liver both produces and cleans cholesterol from the blood. Statins reduce the liver's production but does not effect the ability to clean excess cholesterol. So statins do not reduce cholesterol the body consumes through food.
