Milan Richards is from Savannah

G. Hopper? Wasn't he billed as the next S. Watkins? Is there any chance he starts this year?

Why do we still ignore Kurt Fleming?

May 6, 2014, 2:56 PM

He is routinely left out of discussions and analyses about RBs. I get that he is a walk on. But he could be a big part of our offense even if used sparingly. For example, he could be the 4th down bone crusher. Or the guy to get the extra yards for a goal line crossing with defenders all over him.

I seriously doubt he will ever compete for a starting slot, but it's still a mystery why he goes completely unmentioned.

Re: Why do we still ignore Kurt Fleming?

May 6, 2014, 3:16 PM

He is a walk-on and 5th string at best right now. Why would he merit a mention in an article about who has an edge heading into the summer?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I trust the coaches-but can't believe there is not a role

May 6, 2014, 3:21 PM

For Fleming. Guys w his size, speed, and toughness are few and far between. Reminds me of Mike Alstott

Re: I trust the coaches-but can't believe there is not a role

May 7, 2014, 1:20 AM

I agree. Makes no sense at all. God, I hope this is not some kind of political BS. Someone recently stated that
we owed a player whatever. We don't owe any player anything. They can either play or they can' (or won't).
We owe it to the team to put the best players we have on the field. Usually the guys who feel they are owed something are the one that never found their way to the weight room.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I guess when I read about Trevion Thomson

May 6, 2014, 3:24 PM [ in reply to Re: Why do we still ignore Kurt Fleming? ]

I keep thinking the idea is to look at every possibility. Meaning every player who could be competing for a roster slot.

I don't see Fleming as poorly as you do. If he gets some polish, he could be better at pulling down yards between the tackles than many of the smaller guys like Howard or Davidson. He could still get some speed back (I read he ran sub 4.5 40s at one point) if he trimmed down a few pounds but kept muscle mass.

My guess is that the coaches are cautious because of his ego and personality issues. But they did encourage him to walk on, so they must see potential there both athletically and in attitude.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He has yet to take a collegiate snap and hasn't played in

May 6, 2014, 5:50 PM

a long time. Why would we be talking about him? It's way too early to be getting excited about him. We've got some highly touted talent coming in fresh out of HS, this guy hasn't played in a good while.

Not to say that he can't become something useful or even productive for us. We don't know what we have with him yet.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Fleming isn't mentioned cuz

May 6, 2014, 6:31 PM

He hasn't earned a mention. A few carries in a spring game doesn't earn you anything. How many times have we seen players come outta nowhere, having greatspring games, only to never be heard from again?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He isn't mentioned because you don't talk about secret

May 7, 2014, 1:27 AM [ in reply to Fleming isn't mentioned cuz ]

You must be talking about our current running back corp.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I distinctly remember Fleming running over one of our DBs

May 6, 2014, 11:39 PM [ in reply to He has yet to take a collegiate snap and hasn't played in ]

In the spring game. And didn't he break off a 20 yard run at some point as well? All these guys have talent, but who's to say Fleming isn't the most talented at this point? Sure, it might be a stretch, but come fall I trust the coaches to have it figured out. Personally, I'm impressed with Fleming. He looks to be a lower the shoulder and lay the wood kind of guy - who's also got some speed.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I distinctly remember Fleming running over one of our DBs

May 7, 2014, 1:28 AM

Just the kind of back we need.

Re: He has yet to take a collegiate snap and hasn't played in

May 7, 2014, 1:24 AM [ in reply to He has yet to take a collegiate snap and hasn't played in ]

So, let's him a chance. My guess is that he'll kick butt.
But let's see. We have several over there who have yet to do sh###. So how far could we go wrong?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: He has yet to take a collegiate snap and hasn't played in

May 7, 2014, 2:03 AM

At best Kurt is a short yardage specialist right now. Doesn't seem worth not using a redshirt to me. DJ Howard had a more impressive spring game and I don't see anyone clamoring for him to get a starters share of snaps.

Re: Why do we still ignore Kurt Fleming?

May 7, 2014, 1:09 AM [ in reply to Re: Why do we still ignore Kurt Fleming? ]

Good question. Politics?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Fleming looks the part of that short yardage back that

May 6, 2014, 3:46 PM [ in reply to Why do we still ignore Kurt Fleming? ]

we had to rely on Tajh so much for the past few seasons. We look loaded at RB this year with a lot of different style weapons in our arsenal.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's how I see him, too

May 6, 2014, 3:52 PM

Part of his "attitude" issues means he is also fearless in some ways. That kind of F it mentality. He could be the guy on 3rd or 4th and short/goal jamming a packed line of defenders to get that inch over the line. Just run right into the wall and get what he needs.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Why do we still ignore Kurt Fleming?

May 7, 2014, 12:04 AM [ in reply to Why do we still ignore Kurt Fleming? ]

Because he hasn't played in like 4 years and is a complete wild card. He'll get some PT but he's not gonna bust up the depth chart no matter how "nasty" he is.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Why do we still ignore Kurt Fleming?

May 7, 2014, 1:32 AM

What depth chart? Your aren't really talking about elite backs here.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We aren't talking about elite backs?

May 7, 2014, 1:52 AM

I understand nobody has extremely jumped out in front but we do have some talent there. Don't overlook the fact that three 4* guys didn't take a snap in the spring game. I wouldn't count out Choice just yet. Let's see what he and Dye bring to the table. And you've got some moderate size with Gallman and speed with shiftiness in Davidson. Brooks is an exceptional receiver out of the backfield and could be a LB mismatch, when healthy. He had an exceptional reception vs. Thuga last year. Before we degrade our RB's let's see how it pans out, imho.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't know if you can count Dye at this point

May 7, 2014, 10:08 AM

He will be the go to guy eventually barring he can get and stay healthy but I honestly don't see him coming back this year. At least not in enough of a role to be a factor. Wayne Train and CJ jr will be the main backs, Brooks will get lots of time but I hope that he is used as more of a catch out of the backfield kinda guy because I agree with you that he is a mismatch and that is what he is best at. Brooks just doesn't have the size to run between the tackles, he got flung around by to many linemen last year and eventually that led to him being injured the last half of the year.

Choice may play or he may redshirt but he will take some time to adjust to being a pure running back over the option QB he played in HS.

Re: Why do we still ignore Kurt Fleming?

May 7, 2014, 1:07 AM [ in reply to Why do we still ignore Kurt Fleming? ]

I totally agree. DJ Howard has done virtually nothing.

I totally agree. I've heard this guy is a beast. D.J. Howard has done virtually nothing, Brooks remains a rail at 185, and will do nothing. Gallman is a pretty good back at this point, but no game breaker. My money is on Adam Choice and Treyshone Dye (if he can get healthy.) I'm like you. I want to hear more about this 230 lb. walk-on. He has to have some athletic skills, having played pro baseball for a number of years. All having said and done, I think we have the potential to surprise some people this year. My main concern is the OL.

zac Brooks is a rail at

Alabama offered him. Pretty much a lock for us as a legacy and BOT dad.

I believe he is still scheduled to come in in the fall but

May 7, 2014, 8:15 AM

there have been murmurs about academics so I don't know. I didn't see CJ Fuller listed in the RB section so I guess he will be a DB.

He led a game-winning drive against Boston College in 2011?

Seckinger better work on his blocking skills this year

May 6, 2014, 9:37 PM

He straight up whiffed people last year leaving Tajh to be a sitting duck.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Seckinger better work on his blocking skills this year

May 7, 2014, 1:40 AM

At 205, how is he in any way a TE? Especially one who can block? He's so thin he only has one side. Move him back to wide receiver, and stop pretending that he's a tight end. No way. What are the coaches thinking?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

230 and growing, tho I agree about the blocking. Needs work.***

I still think he is one of the top 3-4 WRs for us this year. If he can get his act together, he has the talent to be a really good one for us.
