what is the Braves' problem?

Aug 30, 2015, 4:53 PM

I am a Yankees fan, but from looking at their lineup they have some good hitters. that only leaves pitching. is that their problem?

Have you watched the past 25 years of Braves baseball?...

Aug 30, 2015, 4:55 PM

They're the biggest chokers in professional sports.

They only won 1 and yes they are choke artist.
A couple of times in the 90s they had the best record in baseball and didn't even make the WS. The last 10 years or so they have pretty much sucked.

once against a team from Cleveland....

So that really doesn't mean much. They should have won at least 4 back in the 90's

Plus they traded away many of their good players.

playing for '17

Aug 30, 2015, 5:16 PM

They traded away players for prospects while dumping some bad contracts so that they can make a push in their new stadium in '17. Their bullpen is just horrible and has blown many a leads for the Braves.

Off topic. But, is you username an avenged sevenfold reference?

The Braves organization and fans are a joke.

Aug 30, 2015, 5:33 PM

Even when they were doing well, the fans didn't show up at to the ball park on a regular basis. They can now both enjoy the fact that they are all irrelevant once again.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Atlanta didn't do them any favors

Aug 30, 2015, 5:42 PM

Have you been to that part of Atlanta? Not exactly a fan-friendly area. When the new stadium was built, the Braves were sold a lie that Atlanta would rejuvenate the area. It didn't happen and now they are moving to an area that should attract more fans.

Re: The Braves organization and fans are a joke.

Aug 30, 2015, 6:09 PM [ in reply to The Braves organization and fans are a joke. ]

Braves actually have a solid fan base. I'm actually traveling down to Miami on the 24th to the Marlins series. Problem is that the new GM Hart has his eyes set on 2017 and doesn't care if we win another game from now until then. With that being said, we won't do anything in 2017 unless they start making the moves now and give the team a season to gel.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

they are getting pounded by players we traded

Aug 30, 2015, 8:12 PM

they were traded for lack of performance when it was a coaching problem " hitting coach" who is gone now but so are the players

100% wrong. They spent that kind of money on both Upton's, Uggla, and others. And it got us nowhere fast.

Exactly, but no one spends money like the Yankees.

The Uggla deal still haunts the Braves, with BJ Upton not

2005 and prior they were top 10 in salary

Aug 31, 2015, 6:49 PM [ in reply to Re: I think when Ted Turner sold the Braves as part of the ]

They were as high as 3rd in Salary in 2002 and 2000. This only goes back to 1998, but they were consistently top 10 during this timeframe in willingness to spend and up in the top 6 or 8 prior to the sale in 2005 (the sale I noted). 100% wrong or not, this looks more like what I was saying considering the Braves are 23rd on the chart at the beginning of this year (16th last year).

Thats just what I found in about 30 seconds...

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Back then, they spent the money to keep top line pitching.

Sep 2, 2015, 3:11 PM

Now, they deal it away as fast as they can.

They have a LOFT problem

Aug 31, 2015, 1:40 PM

Lack Of Freakin' Talent. Pathetic. Lost Lost 13 of their last 15 and swept by the Yankees by a combined score of 38-11. That's right, they gave up an average of almost 13 runs a game.

The Braves organization isn't committed to winning. Trading their top players instead of paying them.

Re: what is the Braves' problem?

Aug 31, 2015, 3:50 PM

Their current lineup is half made up of guys who were good hitters in 2008 (Bourn, Swisher, Pierzynski, Markakis, etc.) and the other half are mostly career minor leaguers getting a shot.

They traded all of their big contracts and big names for tons and tons of pitching prospects. I believe their oldest starting pitcher is either 24 or just turned 25. They do have a lot of pitching talent in their system now thanks to trading away practically everyone except Freeman, Simmons, and Teheran. Granted, a lot of it has been hit hard this season at the MLB level, but they had a very weak system just a year ago.

As for the hitting prospects, well, they don't have much of anything there. They invested a lot in a 30 year old third baseman from Cuba who already has injury issues, and Mallex Smith looks like a decent leadoff option soon. I guess that's where all of this $$$ freed up from the bad contracts will go in the next 2 years.

They're in Atlanta.***
