Mortgage program at my wifes employment

Mar 15, 2016, 5:01 PM

We can get a mortgage through them, we have to pay at least 10% down. They take the mortgage payment directly out of her paycheck. No credit check and I don't think it shows up on a credit report as having debt, not sure though yet. Very little paper work. The interest rate they offer is based on the going rate minus some set amount.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thats pretty sweet.

Mar 15, 2016, 5:03 PM

I think I put down about 40%; didn't help with the rate though.

Meh..doesn't matter--probably won't be here that long anyway.

Its typically 60 days but they said lately they've been giving 90 days.

Welcome to 30 years of debt. And whatever you do

Mar 15, 2016, 7:21 PM

DO NOT peek at the amortization table.

But sirsly, congrats. Pay it off ASAP.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg2016_nascar_champ.gif flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've been thinking about that.

Mar 15, 2016, 7:52 PM

At this pointg in my life, why do I care if it's paid off? Do I really want to live in the same house for the next 20-30 years?

If I bought a house and financed it for 30 years, chances are I'll be dead (late 70's )by the time it's paid for. At this point, Why would I NOT extend out the payment to be cheaper (for longer), and live in a nicer place while it still matters?

If it gets to a point that I can no longer afford and am still alive, I sell it, take the profits, and move somewhere smaller/cheaper. I mean I could probably sell this house and pay for a house now (somewhere), but why would I want to live in crap hole?
