They said that states can enforce their elector's pledge. If a state chooses to have their electors vote in a way besides the state's popular vote, this decision does not say anything against that.

If it's just an automatic vote based on the votes within the state, why not just count up electoral votes, without going through the rigmarole of having actual human electors? The human element seems non-value-added.
