Lack of real nickname has hurt our rivalry on national scale

Not so much today but typically our rivalry Vs SC is one of the best in the country in terms of amount of hate that is exclusive to each side.

Yet nationally our rivalry is not very well known. Is it because SC is never nationally relevant? Sometimes but team relevance doesn’t always hurt a rivalry.

Ours lags behind “Apple Cup” “Bedlam” “Egg Bowl” “Clean Old Fashioned Hate” “Civil War” etc because ours doesn’t have a nickname even though our rivalry is better than those.

Hate yes, but generally in order to gain national interest it needs to be competitive and matter. The Ohio st Michigan game many years determines the conference. This is just an annual ash kicking and this year it may be of biblical proportions

Lack of relevance has hurt it most.

Up until recently, neither team has been relevant nationally.

Add in the fact that there are no conference implications and the rest of the nation just doesn’t care.
