What did this Ditka guy ever do to be on ESPN all the time?

Dec 23, 2012, 11:23 AM

Just practicing to have a dialogue with Cyber and 2000.

Do you have to practice inane comments or do they come naturally?

Very curious to refer to Mike Ditka as "this Ditka guy." :)

I think he had a popular skit on SNL or something.***

Are you serious, Super Bowl winning 1985 Chicago Bears coach as well as a great NFL linebacker. William Perry played on that team and scored a few touchdowns when Ditka put him at fullback.

He was a Hall of Fame Tight End, he didn't play Linebacker***

The young guys think football started with the Saban era

I guess they are to lazy to do some research.

And some people don't watch the NFL at all….

Dec 23, 2012, 11:53 AM

that's why their knowledge of football is limited. I often find people who don't watch the NFL, don't fully understand the game of football.

spot on

Dec 23, 2012, 12:37 PM

i cannot talk about football with people who don't watch the NFL.....all they care about is conference/BCS crap and rankings, etc. and i've come to the conclusion that they are really not football lovers really. And they are resentful of the money that the pros make, etc...and they don't even keep up with former Tigers in the NFL either. Some of the absurd discussions i've had with them involve stuff like them thinking that the pros don't play hard, don't care, etc.....they may make millions but if you don't think those guys play to win and play hard, you don't watch....the NFL game is so fast and so brutal and winning is all that matters, otherwise jobs are lost and you are gone, period.

Exactly, draft busts in the NFL only last a few years…..

Dec 23, 2012, 12:40 PM

in the NBA and MLB they can have careers lasting 10 years or more.

You are being kind! The original poster here must still be playing with tidily winks. Saban would have ripped his scholly right out of his hands!!

Interesting side note…..

Dec 23, 2012, 11:57 AM [ in reply to The young guys think football started with the Saban era ]

most SEC fans don't watch the NFL, that's why they think they are as good as the NFL and that 3 yards and a cloud of dust is still the way to win. They don't see how a lot of their star players fail at the NFL level, and how players from outside of their conference excel in the NFL. They don't see how a lot of NFL teams are using spread offenses. Such is the way of people who live inside of a bubble.

Dec 23, 2012, 12:41 PM

you just took words out of my mouth....they have so much emotion and regional pride wrapped up in their fandom that it turns into a stupid debate about the SEC being able to play with the NFL teams....the KC Chiefs would obliterate Alabama by 4 TD's minimum if they played....the NFL, NBA and MLB are on so much higher of a level than their college counterparts that it's ridiculous.....Eric Berry's (former Tennessee All-American safety) cousin is in my unit and i've met him at our welcome home party two years ago when he was a rookie....he told me that the speed in the NFL is staggering and the strength and skill level is like the difference between HS and college....it's not even close.

How dare you besmirch the name of Ditka…...

Dec 23, 2012, 11:42 AM

Mike Singletary will be visiting you shortly. And let me tell you is still very angry about Troy Smith playing poorly. Woe to you.
