Cancel $10,000 student loan debt immediately

Nov 27, 2020, 5:14 AM

If you have student loans near or below $10,000 STOP paying and see if Uncle Sugar can wipe it out for you. You might have to wait until January and hope that the senate turns blue, but they can also attach it to a covid relief bill that could get enough support from pubs like Mittens.

I have one kid with student loan debt left, this would be sweet for him. It would pretty much wipe out his debt.

The party of free stuff for nothing in return has some really good spending ideas.

Kid pays taxes he pays for your kids debt.

If Congress cancels it the American taxpayers pay for it. If Biden cancels it the professors, faculty, and staff of the universities pay for it. It's already been done. The professors taught. The students learned. The degrees were conferred. If the taxpayers don't foot the bill the lenders won't lend. Your kids pay either way.

Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it, so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale hath had its effect: like a man, who hath thought of a good repartee when the discourse is changed, or the company parted; or like a physician, who hath found out an infallible medicine, after the patient is dead.
- Jonathan Swift

I do think something needs to be looked at with the student

loan debt, but not some mass forgiveness. I also think anybody who has taken a loan out in the past 5-6 years should not get included in this relief. At that point we all knew it was out of hand, if they still took out loans, to hell with 'em.

Deferring payments during the pandemic? Ok they want compromise , I can go along with that idea. As long as its not a step toward forgiving debts. I like the idea.

Matching funds seems like a reasonable compromise. For every dollar that the student pays back the federal gov't will match a dollar. You could even make it a sliding scale to encourage the former students to pay their loans off earlier. First year - 100% match. Second year - 90% match Third year - 80% match etc.

I see your point. And hell no don't

Nov 27, 2020, 12:06 PM

just forgive cc debt. Someone below was carrying on about mortgages. Well, those rates are pretty dang low so if you are paying 6.5% or more then you got issues.

The student loan debt is a bit different. Most lenders should have probably not made those loans because the earnings potential wasn't there. Some folks at SCDNR with masters in biology are making $10-$11 a hour. These are the people making sure the fishing is good to go and what not.

I don't know how things got out of control with this, all my loans are long paid for. Helping folks out with it should see an overall boom to the economy, rather than a few folks banking all the money from all this loan interest.

My idiot self, only took out loans in my lifetime that I could pay back. Dumb.

Any chance of mortgage forgiveness coming down the pike? I'll stop paying immediately.

You beat me to it. I was going to say if someone borrows money for a truck why not a govt matching program to pay off the truck?? It is not my responsibility to pay off a kids college debt!! You choose to go to college, you pay for it. Period!

I find it odd that conservatives outright reject any assistance to the poor or needy.

But they don't have a problem with taxpayers subsidizing the oil industry, farmers, Wall St....etc.

Martin Luther King, Jr. said it best in 1968:

"Whenever the government provides opportunities in privileges for white people and rich people they call it “subsidized” when they do it for Negro and poor people they call it “welfare.” The fact that is the everybody in this country lives on welfare. Suburbia was built with federally subsidized credit. And highways that take our white brothers out to the suburbs were built with federally subsidized money to the tune of 90 percent. Everybody is on welfare in this country. The problem is that we all to often have socialism for the rich and rugged free enterprise capitalism for the poor. That’s the problem."

who manage to make ends meet but not much else who've got the wrong view. They've been tricked into hating or being scared of those poor folks. What they really ought to do is team up and go after the rich man together.
