You're hipster enough to not want to be too far from city center, so no Ballantyne or LKN, but you're far enough removed from your early 20's to not want pure uptown. Your conservative sensibilities wouldn't abide the crowd in NoDa or Plaza Midwood.
Based on where I know heavy Clemson populations to be in CLT, I'm gonna go with South Park or Park Rd areas?
Either way, congarts....I don't recall you being in love with the ATL, so enjoy CLT.

That's almost spot on.
We lived in the South End for a year, right by Sycamore. Loved it at first, but quickly grew to loathe the early 20-somethings that treated the apartment complex like a frat house.
Ended up buying in Sardis Forest area. Still a cheap uber to uptown or the South End, but I get to live among civilized folk with land, and table manners.

I had a typo....said "South park, park rd" in my original post and meant to type "south park, providence rd", which woulda been extra weird.
Nice area----I imagine you'll really like it. Good part of town to raise a family too. Congrats!
