So are we essentially a lock for the Orange...

Nov 8, 2013, 12:21 AM

if we win out?

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Probably

Nov 8, 2013, 12:24 AM

Only caveat would be if Bama wins out as well, and the Sugar decides to take us with their first pick. Doubt that happens, but its a possibility

Is Sugar bowl better than Orange?***

Sugar picks first if they lose Bama to MNC as the BCS#1

Nov 8, 2013, 12:27 AM

Better? WHo knows. Probably get a slightly worse opponent.

If it was #1Bama vs #2FSU

Nov 8, 2013, 7:59 AM [ in reply to Is Sugar bowl better than Orange?*** ]

Sugar gets 1st and 4th picks, while Orange gets 2nd and 3rd.

I suspect Sugar would take SEC team first, then Orange would grab us and the most appealing at-large team. Sugar and Fiesta may then get stuck with the AAC champ and Fresno/NIU.

The Orange has a better chance of giving us a matchup against a power conference team. If we get the Sugar invite there's a decent chance we could be playing UCF, Fresno, NIU, etc.

Gosh - I hate the darn Orange Bowl - they screwed it up

Nov 8, 2013, 12:51 AM

something awful when they aligned with the Big East and the ACC certainly didn't distinguish itself either - still better than the Big East! I'd rather go back to the Chick Fil-A, but of course if we are a BCS at team that won't happen.

Re: Gosh - I hate the darn Orange Bowl - they screwed it up

Nov 8, 2013, 9:11 AM

Big East was never aligned with the Orange bowl. Orange bowl simply took a Big East team one year and then had the last pick the next two season which resulted in ACC vs Big East match-ups. The Big East simply has a BCS AQ but no tie to a specific bowl like the other conferences.

null

BCS is a big money boost for the school

Nov 8, 2013, 1:00 AM

Not sure why they guarantee is but I think it is in the 1-10 million dollar range. Dabo wants a new facility then the Orange bowl might pay for it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i think all bcs game pay-outs are the same. 18 mil in '13

Nov 8, 2013, 3:20 AM

at least that's what i picked up from the web.....

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But if we can't sell our ticket alottment...

Nov 8, 2013, 9:19 AM

We may take a loss.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

All conference teams make $ on the bowls-- it's PR spin to

Nov 8, 2013, 9:43 AM

say a team took a loss to make people think they aren't receiving big $.

The ACC will get in the neighborhood of 40-$50 million with 2 BCS games...heck maybe more with BCS champ game

The schools are only allotted x $ for travel and this budget is eaten up by unsold tickets as well, however, the other 80% of payout goes into the ACC coffers to be split evenly among all conf members (this 1/14 share is a separate line item that is not considered when you read the stories about how poor old xyz school lost $ on their bowl trip)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not with another loss to the chickens.***

Even if we lose a game....

Nov 8, 2013, 8:07 AM

we still could get the Orange Bowl. This of course assumes Miami is going to lose a game or two, but who else is there? Not sure there is anyone else from the ACC that will be close to qualifying for it.
This assumes that they have to take someone from the ACC of course

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Barring major changes (ofc there will prob be some of those)

Nov 8, 2013, 8:19 AM

it could shake out something like this... The following would be set:

Title Game - Bama vs FSU
Rose - Stanford vs Ohio State
Fiesta - Baylor vs ?

Selection order would then be:

Sugar
Orange
Orange
Sugar
Fiesta

The AAC champion (currently UCF) will have an auto-bid and there's a good chance either Fresno or NIU will as well. That's 2 more teams that have to be fit in somewhere.

At large candidates would be teams like Clemson, Oregon, several SEC teams (only one more can go), someone like Wisc and/or Michigan St from the Big Ten, and maybe even another team from the Big XII though I'm not sure any will be ranked high enough.

Sugar selects first and probably takes SEC at-large

Orange selects twice and can pick two of Clemson, Oregon, Wisc/Mich St. I think we look really good there, especially at 11-1.

Sugar and Fiesta are then forced to take UCF and Fresno/NIU.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thanks T&Cs, that is the best explanation I've seen yet

Nov 8, 2013, 9:22 AM

I could not figure out why so many of these bowl predictions had UCF in Sugar or Orange. I thought it especially strange that some predicted SCAR in Sugar against UCF when those two have already played this year. Now it makes sense from your post that if the Sugar takes an SEC at large and Orange picks twice then UCF is best available for Sugar.....I think.

Nov 8, 2013, 9:25 AM [ in reply to Barring major changes (ofc there will prob be some of those) ]

The Fiesta likes western teams, so I think Oregon or Stanford will probably end up there. Stanford could lose again before the season is over.

"several SEC teams"

What if Bama beats LSU, Mizzou loses to Ole Miss, SCAR loses rivalry game, Auburn loses to Bama and UGA, TAMU loses to Mizzou, who else am I forgetting?

Point is, all of those scenarios above could happen, it's not unreasonable. If so, there may be no SEC team with an at-large BCS invite.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I know I'm wrong to say this, but I wish all y'all would....

Nov 8, 2013, 9:48 AM

stop talking about what's going to happen IF we win out. We've lost 4 in a row to our most hated rival what bowl we play in irrelevant to me in comparison to beating them.
