I just learned something about the Paw !

Nov 25, 2015, 8:14 PM

I know that many of you have seen and forgotten more than I know about Clemson football, but I just put a Tiger paw on one of my guitars and my granddad corrected me and told me it was " supposed to be set at 1 o'clock " lol Seems the Paw is set at 1 o'clock because all of the games in Death Valley had a 1 o'clock kickoff once upon a time ! I know most of y'all already know this , but I love talking to my granddad, I learn something new about Clemson, Clemson football every time I talk to him :)

I turn 20 next month but have been going to the games since in-utero, but there is a lot of history and things that happened that I didn't get to experience 1st. Unlike like SCar where nothing counted before 2009 ;), we have a long history and I just like learning all that I can.

There is a lot of tradition associated with our beloved university. It was founded in 1889. None of us knew it all! Thanks for sharing what you learned. Keep digging, and sharing!

GO TIGERS!!! BEAT THE GAMECOCKS!!!

By the way - Did you know the largest margin of victory in the contest series was set by the Tigers in 1900? We beat the ##### 51-0.

What is the 2nd highest margin of victory by the Tigers? 3rd largest margin of victory?

I was just saying this weekend that........

Nov 25, 2015, 8:39 PM

there are a lot of Clemson fans that don't know this because I can tell from the way that they put their car magnets on the car. A lot of fans even put them on a little toward 11. I was at Clemson when the Paw became the symbol.....it's important. Lol.

A little Tiger Paw history....

Nov 25, 2015, 11:10 PM

Some of the intricacies of the Paw that contribute to its aura were implemented by design at the behest of Antonio. The 30-degree angle at which the official Paw sits is there to designate a 1:00 kickoff time for football games, which was a normal occurrence in those days. The indention at the bottom is due to a scar that the tiger who had been chosen as the subject for the logo had received before the cast was made.
