Clemson Tattoo

Oct 18, 2015, 8:42 PM

I've been considering a Clemson Tiger paw or other iconic Clemson tattoo for many years and I think I'm ready to pull the trigger and wanted to know if any Juan had any good ideas or pictures they could share with me to help in my decision process!

People in Anderson are busy worrying about (in no particular order):

Beating out Spartanburg in the crime rate category
Finding something to do with the all the empty shopping centers
What Perry Noble said last week
Their cops getting DUIs
Their meth problem
Their gang problem
Little kids getting shot while "hunting"
Their failing school districts
Who got shot at the club last night
Their horrible zoning laws
Backed up court system and overflowing jail
Where to put the next "get your GED" billboard
Local sheriffs beating their own kids
The worst roads in the state (clearly subjective, but they can't get any worse)
Did I mention the meth problem?

I made that list before I had my morning coffee. I'm sure there's more.

Encourage you to reconsider

Oct 18, 2015, 8:55 PM

While I've never actually seen a paw related tat, it seems like a unique and reasonably meaningful tat subject.

However, this is a life-long decision. There's LOTs of way to show your Tiger pride without permanently marking up your bod. If it's a visible tat, I promise you it will limit an opportunity somewhere down the road. Not all employers are going be Clemson grads or fans, just a fact of life.

There's always a time and place to show your colors. Just give yourself the option to choose which times those are and aren't.

Oct 18, 2015, 9:05 PM

I say do it. If it has meaning to you, that is all that matters. I would recommend a spot that is easily concealable just in case you work for some prudish people that cringe at the thought of one (several folks who have responded to you, for example)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's not about being "prudish vs hip"

Oct 18, 2015, 9:30 PM

Wake up man. Serious people who make the world go around and WRITE OTHER PEOPLE'S PAYCHECKS very typically view someone with visible (and 99% of the time ugly, stupid or poorly done) tats as an unserious person. If you don't have enough sense and taste than to permanently mark yourself with some god-awful tat then you probably don't have enough sense and character to hold down a responsible job. Right or wrong, that's the perception. Sure, you can flip burgers and stock shelves forever with little consequence if that's your thing.

That's just how the world works my friend.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Holy judgmental.

Oct 18, 2015, 9:41 PM

That is as about the most narrow-minded thing I have ever read.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Holy judgmental.

Oct 18, 2015, 9:53 PM

You may think it is narrow-minded, but I require my 25 employees to cover-up their tattoos at work. Just because you think tattoos are cool, many of my customers do not. Not to mention the fact that so many of the tattoos that young people get are ugly, stupid, or the result of a drunken stupor.

At some point the worm will turn and tattoos will no longer be hip. At that point the damage is done.

Re: It's not about being "prudish vs hip"

Oct 18, 2015, 9:53 PM [ in reply to It's not about being "prudish vs hip" ]

I can't necessarily say that's true. My fiancée is a very successful attorney and has a small tiger paw behind both ears. They're fairly discreet, but if you know they're there, they are visible (if her hair is up).

Nothing wrong with having pride in Clemson, and it can be tastefully done.

I run a bank and have 4 tattoos (2 of them being rather large) all are concealable. If you want me to write you a check you will have to apply for it like everyone else.

No, I have a half sleeve tribute to my buddies who died in Afghanistan. "People who make the world go around" take me serious. I do not stock shelves or flip burgers, btw.

OP - If it is what you really want, go for it.

Boom! Thank you for your service...... It just doesn't matter as much anymore. Some may be stuck with a old skool mentality. I don't go through life giving a crap what people think about music looks. I'm 6' 2" 300lb with and almost 10" beard. . .. With tattoos..... I work at a cryogenic rare gas company. The only one of its kind. That phone or TV most play with...... The medical skin or eye treatment you received..... Doesn't happen without this company. Been here for 15 years. Most of us here have ink. Even on our necks...... Look around. You'd be amazed how many successful and wealthy people have them. It just doesn't matter anymore.

I have a Clemson related tattoo

Oct 18, 2015, 9:11 PM

Got the palmetto tree on my back with the crescent and tree filled in orange/purple in halves.

It was the day before Spiller's game against Kentucky and I remember thinking how much more sentimental it would be if we won the game.

We won and the stinging from the tattoo went from pain to relief.

I say do it, but do it where you can conceal it.

Some tattoos may loose their appeal over time, but I'm a Tiger until the day I die.

Oct 18, 2015, 9:58 PM

Read the post. The question is not whether to get one, but instead what to get. Tattoos are as common as breathing. To think you can't get a job because of one is horse crap. I know people in just about every profession imaginable with huge tattoos. Do your job well. It's all that matters when they cut you that check at the end of the week.

Here is mine right after I got it. Biggest thing is to make sure you put sunscreen on it when your gonna be outside for a while so the orange doesn't start to fade. I've had it for 2 years now and it still looks great.
