Start with a Dewars blended. Not too expensive, and work up to single malt.

But 100% agave and anejo, it's awesome. I hate Dewars. Love a MacAllan 15. I hate Jim Beam, unless mixed with Coke. I love some Eagle Rare or Basil Hayden. Oh, you may want to try Basil Hayden if you like bourbon and scotch. It literally splits the difference between the two. It's a bourbon, but to me it taste a lot like a decent scotch at times. Definitely a different flavor for bourbon, but good and a good sipper.
