Two Georgia players popped on pot charges, suspended

Amidst rumors swirling about his future at Georgia, Mark Richt now has an off-field issue with which to deal.

Wednesday morning, Georgia confirmed in a press release that a pair of players, freshmen Natrez Patrick (pictured, No. 6) and Chauncey Rivers, were arrested earlier in the day on misdemeanor possession of marijuana charges. Both players, per athletic department policy, have been suspended for this weekend’s game against Kentucky.

“They made a very poor decision and I’m extremely disappointed,” UGA’s head coach said in a statement. “They will be disciplined in an appropriate manner and hopefully have learned a valuable life lesson that will benefit them moving forward.”

Patrick, a linebacker, was arrested at 2:23 a.m. ET, while Rivers, a defensive end, was arrested 20 minutes later. Both were released on a $1,000 bond roughly five hours after their arrests by university police.

No details of what led up to the arrests have been release.

Patrick has played in seven games this season, Rivers two.
