What I learned in disaster recovery tonight with

Feb 20, 2020, 7:50 PM

a bunch of IT people (from India):

You can be really smart and really ambitious but completely lose your shid in the face of any sort of adversity.

Never met more of a bunch of 25-50 year old drama queens in my life.

Jesus.

I got some of them in trouble

Feb 21, 2020, 11:01 AM

when performing undercover secret work in a data center outside of Washington DC recently.

Diksheet (actual last name) "commands" me to show him how to make system work. I tell Diksheet that it's not part of my SOW to train him and the three other gentleman from Mumbai how I make system work. These guys are contractors (off shore) that were hired dirt cheap to replace their old staff.

Data center manager comes by and kicks all four of them out of the building for violating the camera policy to which they signed an agreement to get in said Data Center.

I feel sorry for the next generation of IT folks. You're going to be working for them.

Off soapbox now. As you were.

At some point, I'd think MBA schools would start warning

students that out sourcing IT to places thousands of miles away that cost 1/10 as much SEEMS like a good idea for costs savings, but..it's just not. The cost to bring back to America and retrain new workers (because we fired all the old ones) on the now legacy systems will cost much more in the long run the 3-5 years of savings they'll get when they first off-shore everything.

But I guess business doesn't really look past 3-5 years any more, because that's about as long as anyone keeps a job.
