anybubby here have one dem fridges with the freezer drawer

Nov 14, 2017, 4:48 PM

on the bottom??

not the door like grandma had....the pull-out (lol, right) drawer

is that a PIA?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My Inlaws have one, and it just don't seem right

Nov 14, 2017, 4:50 PM

40+ years of reaching up for ice, and now I'm sposed to lean down.

Nosir!

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

that's enough reason for me.

Nov 14, 2017, 4:53 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yes, I have had one.

Nov 14, 2017, 4:51 PM

No, it is not a PIA. But it doesn't hold as much as the whole half fridge door on the left.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's kinda what I'm thinking

Nov 14, 2017, 4:52 PM

hadn't thought of the ice dispenser thing mentioned above....that pretty much ends this thread.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

gf of has an ice dispenser in the door like a normal fridge

Nov 14, 2017, 4:55 PM

no reaching down for ice

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Mine had a separate ice maker in the door.

Nov 14, 2017, 4:59 PM [ in reply to That's kinda what I'm thinking ]

Wasn't an issue.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

gf of has that, she likes it

Nov 14, 2017, 4:51 PM

but one day her fridge set itself to Demo mode and thawed out. I doubt that was b/c of the freezer drawer

It seems more spacious than the topmount ones I'm used to, but I didn't measure.

also...you do something to do with sound/wiring/theater something, right??

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I like it aside from the freezer drawer sticking sometimes

Nov 14, 2017, 5:02 PM

and then you get all comfortable in the bed and hear the door alarm go off. Other than that, it's great. The doors on top are double doors.

And yes, I work with sound/wiring/theater something.

Nov 14, 2017, 5:02 PM

It's really no different than having the freezer on top or side . You have to change your management a bit, but with a drawer and divider in the middle, it's just like having shelves. There are two small compartments in the door that are good for thinner objects.

Now there are some people who struggle with bending over, but I haven't had that problem...yet. Would be the same as the produce drawers or bottom shelves in traditional fridges.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

doesn't matter when you have this

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

the drawer is fine, but

Nov 14, 2017, 5:17 PM

like has been said it feels small.

ours has ice and water up top like a normal fridge, so it's no big deal.

the upright gets the most action, so who cares about the drawer

French doors - two doors on top for fridge, one with ice and water on left. Freezer on bottom.

This thing is huge, they had to take off all doors to get into house.

We like - no issues.

yes, Frigidaire with no-fangerprint stainless, french doors

Nov 14, 2017, 11:13 PM

with ice/water on the left door, bottom freezer with another ice maker there. Like OSF, we keep it turned off mostly, but nice to have. Had it 3 years, like it pretty well. Digging in the freezer drawer is not as nice as a separate upright freezer like we used to have, but OK. Have the old side-by-side in the laundry room w/o the icemaker hooked up.

I think the ideal is one o these french door/bottom freezer with an extra old-style lower fridge/upper freezer. Or if they made them, a big french door fridge-only, no freezer except for ice/water in the door, with an extra upright freezer. Not a big fan of the side-by-side we had for years as our primary, and is now the extra fridge. Miss our upright freezer, which broked.

Nov 15, 2017, 6:45 AM

Ice in the door. I feel like i cam see in the freezer better now than I could in my side by side. Stuff would get lost in that thing for years. Also we have a deep freezer in the garage so space isnt really an issue, though the one on the fridge seems fine.

I have one

Nov 15, 2017, 8:55 AM

Its actually pretty aight. We dont have a ton of stuff in there other than ice cream at the moment, but theres tons of space and two levels of storage down there. Leaves a ton of room up top. We got a model with filtered water inside of the refrigerator. Would recommend. Got it pretty cheap.

on the front of the door, which takes up door storage space on the inside, Whirlpool added a filtered water dispenser on the inside of the fridge, allowing you to have door storage and a water dispenser. Looks like this

interdasting...

Nov 15, 2017, 2:20 PM

what about ice? Just grab it from the freezer like our ancestors did?

and you gotta open the fridge (and freezer) every time you want some ice water? One hand to hold the cup, the other to press the button?

interesting idea...like the 'clean' look of the front of the fridge, but not sure about the usability in our case, as we drink a lot of f'n ice water

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes to everything you said

Nov 15, 2017, 2:41 PM

I don't mind opening the door to get the water due to the increased door storage. fair trade off to me, and honestly less parts that have the option of breaking.

I'm not a fan of ice in the door...

Nov 15, 2017, 1:54 PM

at my old house I had one that was freakin huge and it had an ice maker in the pullout drawer of the freezer. It made a ton of ice. Like have a party at the house and not run out of ice.

I got a new one in my new house and my wife insisted on a ice in the door model. Now my fridge is too small to hold much stuff and my ice maker makes about enough ice for 4 drinks a night. And I have 6 people in my house.
