Wow, we all knew the SEC paid players, but $650,000

Aug 25, 2017, 3:35 PM

for a 4-star outside the top-50 is surprising. The article says the player (Leo Lewis) might testify at the hearing against Ole Miss in September. If that happens Ole Miss won't be the only SEC team in hot water. The writer of the article (Steven Godfrey) is one of the better journalists in the business, so the story has a lot of credibility.

at a little over $150.00 per hour, I would have to work several years to make that kind of scratch.

I just wonder if the article put an extra 0 on that number by mistake. 65,000 from lsu then miss state topped it with 80,000 hence why he chose miss state. That makes more sense to me

Also that's way more than Miss State and Auburn offered for Cam Newton. His was like 180k

The 80 grand was a typo.***

"Counsel for Ole Miss submitted the video to the NCAA on Nov. 18, the same day of Leo’s second interview. In addition, an audio tape of an alleged conversation between Farrar and Lewis’ mother, Tina Henderson, was submitted by Farrar’s counsel after the November interview. In the audio tape, recorded on Feb. 2, 2015, a day before Lewis says Allen paid him $10,000 to sign with Ole Miss, Henderson allegedly told Farrar that she had received multiple cash offers for Lewis, including $650,000 from LSU and $80,000 from Mississippi State."

Why didn't he go to LSU...... I'm no mathematical genius..... but that seemed to be the best number.

$65K to $80K sounds about right for a kid of his rating and perceived ability. That is the market right now.

If the kid says he got $650K, I simply do not believe him. I've heard a lot when it comes to recruiting...and I've never remotely heard of anyone getting close to that before. As far as I know Cam Newton probably got $200K+ to play for Auburn...and he was a 5-star QB who won them a national title. I've heard of other kids getting $100K or even (rarely) $150K offers...again, for 5-star game-changers.

I've never even heard of even the worst SEC offenders offering half a million before, much less $650K.

Basketball players can (sometimes) get $200K or even more, apparently, but there's far fewer of them, far more schools invested in the process, and there's far more of a return per individual player.

If he was shopping and turned down $650k then somebody paid more.***

I get the feeling that ESPN is sinking

Aug 25, 2017, 6:40 PM

And now the truth will start pouring out. The SEC has been and still is cheating. They are like a kid with their hand in the jar

Gosh, if they'll pay that kind of cash for a LB, what would they pay for a QB? You'd think the Corn dogs could come up with some decent QB play for that kind of coin.
