Oscar Pistorius trial (for anyone interested)....

Sep 11, 2014, 8:12 AM
Reply

The judge has ruled-out a conviction for both premeditated murder and murder verdicts in the shooting death of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

The judge could still convict Pistorius of culpable homicide which is a negligent killing. Such a verdict would likely result in a lengthy jail sentence.

So getting to the verdict is as drawn out as the trial

If he is convicted of the final charge - and I believe he will be - South African law provides that the sentence be served at the prison closest to the person's home. The prison closest to him is the worst in all of South Africa, which is saying a lot. However, money can go a long way in SA in making one's sentence more bearable.

He almost certainly didn't deliberately kill her.

Generally speaking, when men try to kill their significant other, it's a power trip for them, and they want to see a reaction, want to see the blood on their knuckles - witness the way War Machine recently beat his #### queen ex-girlfriend Christina Mack to a pulp and then went for a knife before she bolted.

Impersonally emptying a gun into a closed door...with his prosthetic legs off? Doesn't square with the usual power-trip mentality. Especially since they were in bed together anyhow. Men who do this kind of stuff, almost always do it when the woman tries to leave.

You can argue he was negligent, paranoid, had a hair-trigger and sensationally bad judgment - that's been fairly obvious throughout the trial - but it's not tremendously likely it was murder.

I don't think this story has any legs.***

Does the defense have a leg to stand on with this negligent killing idea?

No, it was a great feet of strength for the defense to get a non-conviction.
