I graduated from Clemson 30 years ago. We were not a very good basketball team then and with a few exceptions, we have not been very good since. A few good players - yes. A few nice winning streaks - yes. Every now and then a NCAA bid - yes. A good team - rarely. We are not really a basketball school. We don't recruit players or coaches like the schools that are. Many games we don't play like a good basketball team. Our basic fundamentals are always lacking. Our coaches aren't stellar. Yet, year after year, everybody seems to expect some miraculous season where we get to the Final Four. It's not going to happen unless we totally change the mindset on how we build a basketball program. Unless we spend A LOT more money on getting players and coaches to recruit like the UNCs, Dukes, Kentuckys, etc. we will be at best a good basketball team. NIT is an average season. NCAA is a good season. To win a NCAA game is a great season. Nothing has changed in 30 years. It doesn't look that good for the next 30.
