Karma

Oct 3, 2017, 1:16 PM

So I mentioned on Monday that my daughter poured candle wax down the bathroom sink...

Well now she has the Flu.

She just learnt a valuable lesson at age 5: Karma's a biitch.

Oct 3, 2017, 1:30 PM [ in reply to I don't think you'll get ebola if you don't have a flu shot. ]

Seems like every year they miss what strain is the most prevalent or whatever. I know the last time my wife got a flu shot, she got the flu. She hasn't gotten it since then, and hasn't had the flu. I've maybe had the flu once when I was a kid or something, and I never get a flu shot.

But every year, I'm hassled by at least 3 or 4 people who act like I'm jumping into a pit filled with AIDS needles by not getting one.

It's all about mental toughness, in my experience.

My grandpa would lick people in the mouth who had the flu and never once got it himself. It's about determination.

I simply refuse things like illness, accidents, deranged shooters, sneak-thieves, venomous mammals, Russian assassins, and poltergeists that would try and drag me into the ether through the TV set. I know many of your are afflicted by these things on a daily basis, but I grew up in an era of Nancy Reagan teaching me to JUST. SAY. NO.

the 3 most likely flu strains to spread around you. You've got roughly a 1 in 20 to 1 in 5 chance of getting the flu in a given year depending on your environment. Flu vaccines cut this down by 60%.

I get one every year, as does my family. Haven't had the flu.

Also helps build herd immunity for those who can't be vaccinated.

What are the odds I don't get the flu?

Oct 3, 2017, 1:45 PM [ in reply to It's not a perfect vaccine. Each year it protects against ]

I'd imagine that is actually based on the individual, and not actually even if they happen to come across (giggity) the flu bug.

I'm not even sure how one might quantify that risk. I'd doubt seriously its as low as 1 in 20, or certainly not 1 in 5, that I'll get the flu, with or without the flu shot.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well based on math, 80-95% chance you don't get the

Oct 3, 2017, 2:01 PM

flu in a given year. With the shot, 92-98% chance you won't get the flu.

Given that the flu kills more in the US on average than firearms, I'd go with the shot.
