What's the deal for incoming students? Is it best to just buy the one through Clemson? I know this has been discussed before, but can't remember what the consensus was.

MauldinT, where are you???

We did not buy through Clemson.

We had just bought one for Joonyer right before he got accepted, so we stuck with what we had. At the time, Clemson set it up and installed software for free even though we didn't. Also, a couple of times he had issues the tech support group fixed it for free. I'm sure times have changed and they suck every penny they can out of you now, but Joonyer earned a degree on a laptop that was a third of the price of buying through the school.

I had to buy a $200 HP calculator for engineering classes

back in the 80's. That hurt.

Today you can get a better one free in a box of cereal.

HP 48GX was the one at Clemson in the 90's.

My mama's boy roommate's mom bought him all the expansion packs so he aced his chemistry tests and had a whopping 128kb extra memory for cheat notes.
