“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

If she's a hollerer, she'll be a screamer.
If she's a screamer, she'll get you arrested.

I assumed they were as well endowed as Mackey

How colleges respond. Colleges and hospitals have been some of the biggest spenders the past 10 years. While they're both raking in money, they're also some of the most over leveraged with debt. Don't know much about Furman though.

Theres only one or two sports that usually make money and they tend to fund the others and Title 9 sports... At least at Clemson. If there is no football then other sports will no longer be funded. We have to play football even if no one is in the stands. Colleges have to have classes even if online. Not sure about Furman but Clemson University is independent of the athletic department financially. The endowment money is on the university side and IPTAY and the AD work under a different financial umbrella. I would think the cuts work differently as the finances are seperate. Maybe that's not the case with Furman. Sucks though.

Rest assured Harvard will survive though. They have connections.

Furman is a cool spot

several times my dad and I would go to the Furman noon game, then drive out to Clemson for a night game. We did this 2-3 times. Some of the best days ever.

One time we did this and I had been drinking Jack/Cokes at the Furman game. Get to Clemson to tailgate, there were 4 of us, my dad and his buds. We get to Clemson and I slept off that first round of party in the Lot while they went and ate. I woke about 6pm, started hammering down again at ESSO, kept it going during the game.

That was quite possibly the longest day ever. I am pretty certain Clemson was playing Maryland and it was homecoming....I think.

$700+M endowment and they pull this crap.

Sorta like Harvard laying off the cafeteria staff in week 1 of all this despite a $40B endowment.

Gotta love just axing the men’s sports to keep that Title IX. Sent this to my Furman alum bro in-law last night and he said he was done giving.

Pretty ridiculous if you ask me.

It just seems like they've jumped the gun on this. I can respect the voluntary salary reductions for upper administration and honoring schollys for those sports through the students undergrad. But i don't get just killing the programs completely at this point. They've got the facilities.
