I wish the ACC would invite West Virginia to connect

May 6, 2014, 10:04 PM

all of the states in the conference. I really think the ACC dropped the ball by not inviting West Virginia. The stadium size, crowd size and atmosphere. I think the ACC would be great with the following 16:

Boston College
Clemson
Duke
Florida State
Georgia Tech
Louisville
Miami, Fl
North Carolina
NC State
Notre Dame
Pitt
Syracuse
Virginia
Virginia Tech
Wake Forest
West Virginia

Connecticut will probably end up in the Big Ten.

I think their academics are worse than Louisville.***

They simply do not fit with the academic side of the ACC

According to US News, the lowest ranked university in the ACC is NCSU at 101. West Virginia comes in at a rather distant 170.

On a personal note, the ACC is plenty big already. I, for one, miss our annual game with UNC which had something like 60 consecutive years of games before the expansion.

West Virginia is just a bad fit academically and until 10 years ago, I don't remember hearing about them in the athletic world either.

It's an ATHLETIC conference

May 6, 2014, 11:47 PM

Why are we getting all hoity toity about academics? What we really want is football. WVU being academically sucky isn't going to lessen the value of Clemson.

That's the rule of the faculty senate. A couple of these characters go to my gym----and you talk about weird!! Of course they hate athletics. But looking at them, they couldn't have played crochet.

We can't keep watering down the academics of the ACC for football. Is WV really a top tier program worth doing that for? Heck no!

Penn state, Notre Dame, those are 2 worth taking with both academics and football.

Plus will it really help to add more schools? Look at basketball, we add some great Bball schools and ESecPN still said the ACC was down.

Regardless, they will still dump on the ACC and promote their $&& interest. The ACC is the only conference that directly competes in all the same media markets as the SEC.

I agree. WVU is a no brainer........

May 6, 2014, 11:16 PM

Their academic integrity is on par with that of UNC & FSU.

You said it all

"WVU is a no brainer"

Just probably not in the way you meant :)

Maybe better. I've really never heard a rap on WVU's academics. And who we are to preach, with the stuff that has been documented as going on at UNC and FSU?? And some are trying to hold up the ACC as a beacon of academic excellence?? Who are you kidding?

Who cares about conference academics?

And Clemson is only responsible for its own standards, not the freaking conference, And are Pitt and Syracuse really shining academic lights? Not that I've heard of.
This is more of Swoffy's BS. But you'll never hear him mention the "non-courses" at UNC,

Actually Pitt and Cuse are both tied with Clemson in the US News Rankings but both of those schools are members of the AAU, along with the likes of Stanford, Yale, Harvard, etc. Clemson is not a member. It's a rather exclusive group.

I agree. It is a shame that WVU had to grab for the Big 12.

May 7, 2014, 9:05 AM

Now they are out on an island. I think they deserved better than that.

I'm all for the academic prestige of the conference but only to a point. Besides, sometimes I think we get too wrapped up on rankings. WVU is fine.
