The "Thinning Of The Herd" 11/2 Edition (Winter Is Coming)

My weekly public service to anybody out there who believes there will be more than 4 undefeated teams at the end of the year vying for a place in the College Football Playoffs. It won’t happen, despite each year worry and angst are abound with people wondering if we will have a decision to make among undefeated teams come playoff time.
The inevitable will happen….it’s called “the thinning of the herd”
Recap Of Last Week
Most of the herd sat at home and watched football games this weekend in advance of this week’s monumental weekend. The herd survived…but that does not change the fact that winter is coming.
Baylor avoided a major letdown on Thursday and kept itself in the herd. Clemson spent more time worrying about the cannon guy that fired too early before the team came down the hill than we did worrying about Wofford. And the rest of the herd awaited winter by stocking up on the ammunition.
The herd is still at 7…but for only a few more days. The herd will be no more than 5 this time next week…and don’t be surprised if it actually dips to 4 by sundown next Saturday.
Guaranteed Thinning Will Take Place
LSU at Alabama. The SEC is ready to eat their own, Part I.
Penn State at Minnesota. The Big 10 is also ready to eat their own.
"Upset Alert”
Baylor at TCU. The Horned Frogs are a pedestrian 4-4, but Baylor has hung around the herd as if it were a big boy, but something tells me that their membership is about to be revoked.
Will Keep Winning....For Now
Clemson at NC State. I tried to find it in myself to feel sorry for NC State. Then I looked and saw Dave Doeren is still the coach.
Maryland at Ohio State. It’s a nooner in Columbus, but he former ACC’ers just don’t have enough turtle juice to mount any worry.

Great reminder. A very decent chance there will only be 1 remaining unbeaten team by the time conference championships are over. Of course, I hope there are 2, so that we don’t go into the playoffs with the curse of being ranked #1.

Hold on, I’ve been waiting for your post. No mention of SMU and App State leaving the herd? Or is your herd only top ten teams? I thought it was the undefeateds? Don’t want you slip up!

should not be recognized in the conversation for the playoffs as it is not going to happen....not when there are only 4 teams that get in.
