How'd You become a Clemson Fan? My Bro-in-Law to B 4 me..

Nov 8, 2014, 3:21 PM

Who was a Freshman @ CCollege in '57 and asked his Sister & "date" Me to come to game.

I had just moved to G'ville SC from Charlotte and hadn't heard of Clemson (was a Tar H+eL fan since Dad attended there b/4 WW2) but after seeing campus, team, stadium & fans I immediately had Orange in my blood (still do 57 yrs later)..put the Baby Blue stuff down..graduating years later..plus having Son graduate @ Tigertown tOO!

How bout You...what happened to cause you to fall in love with Clemson & become a Fan?

GoTiGERS everywhere!

Relatives back to math professor when it was Clemson College and another who was on the CU board.

I graduated in 77. I look back upon those days fondly.

Nov 8, 2014, 3:28 PM

... an uncle was deeply involved in the university for years, started going to football games when I was 10, basketball and baseball games soon after that.

Then I was very good at math and science in high school and going out of state was not a financial option, so Clemson was the best option for me.

My parents are from NC and had no allegiance to any SC school but my high school boyfriend's dad went to CU and that's where he wanted to go. I followed the boyfriend and fell totally in love with Clemson. Consequently, my 2 siblings and 2 of my kids also graduated from Clemson. By the way, I've been married to the boyfriend for 38 years! Go Tigers!

When I was

Nov 8, 2014, 3:56 PM

in elementary school, I was a gamecock fan because King Dixon was from my home town and played for the gamecocks. My family moved to Greenville county when I was in the 4th grade and I played for a "termite" football team that year. Our coach took the team to a Clemson game, (which cost each team member $.10), and we sat on the hill. When the Tigers came down that hill, I was hooked and my blood is totally orange. I am also the proud father of a son who is a proud Clemson graduate. GO TIGERS!

Uncle was Tiger going back to 40's and my Pop

Nov 8, 2014, 3:58 PM

Was ND fan going back to 40's. Uncle was Mom's brother and him and my Pop were best friends. Went to Tiger/ND game in 1977 and it was a wrap....my Pop was disappointed that I did not become a Domer like all of his NJ family and his comment later was, "well pal, I guess it is Fuller to Butler for you, huh?". I told him yep and he said, "that is okay....those Orange SOB's play some nasty defense.....at least you are not a #### chicken". He became a closet Tiger fan and remained a fanatic Domer til he died. About the Chickens he would say, "godalmighty I hope the ######## lose their scrimmage games".

made the decision as a child, influenced by no one

Nov 8, 2014, 4:01 PM

no relatives had even gone to college except for a cousin who went to Naval Academy.

I had decided by 2nd grade that I was going to Clemson, even though it was a million miles away (200 miles is a long way for a kid - from Lowcountry to Upstate). SCAR never really entered the picture, even though the majority of my friends were Gamecock fans.

A friends dad took me to a Clemson game when I was about 10 and reaffirmed my choice as the correct one.

Been committed ever since.

Re: How'd You become a Clemson Fan? My Bro-in-Law to B 4 me..

Nov 8, 2014, 4:19 PM

I became a fan after my older sister enrolled at Clemson in the late 80s. I never watched college sports before then. Although I had hoped to follow in her footsteps, financial circumstances forced me to enroll at a university in Virginia, where I have been a resident since high school. Clemson is where my heart was though, and I was the only student who would wear Clemson gear at my school.

Back in the day, my dad played fb for Clemson...

Nov 8, 2014, 4:27 PM

for 2 yrs and then had to go to war. Not sure I had a choice, or he probably would have disowned me. Took me to my first game at 5 yrs old.....when you had to wear your Sunday best to the game.

God rest his soul!!

Funny story about my dad. It was a Clemson/coot game day. Him and 2 attorneys from Greenwood (one was a coot) were going to the game. This was when it was 2 lanes from Anderson to Clemson. They borrowed a hearse (this was when the funeral homes were both ambulances and dead people carriers). They were in heavy traffic. at standstills, game time was about an hr away. They talked to a cop directing traffic and told him that they needed to get this body to a funeral home in Clemson ASAP. My dad was lying on the stretcher covered up. Traffic was stopped to let them get by. They drove to the stadium, got out and walked into the stadium and watched the game. lol

This was when cops did not escort or follow them. Just took their word.

It didn't hurt that my Dad told me he'd pay my tuition anywhere I wanted to go......so long as it was tuition at Clemson. Thanks Dad! Given how that turned out, I wish I would have listened to more of his, "advice" (or at least that was HIS WAY of giving advice) as a young man.

I wanted to go to SCAR because of the Roach, Ribock, Owens, Riker, Cremins basketball team. My dad said I think you should go to Clemson because it's a better school. My blood turned orange as soon as I arrived on campus for orientation.

Grew up in aUSCjr house. My dad always had season tickets and drug me to the games at the roach. I always pulled for the other team. My fondest memory is watching the 81 title game with my dad and rubbing it in. I was born with Orange in my blood.
