How will teams operate against us this season?

Aug 26, 2018, 4:07 PM

Serious question - how do you see our opponents trying to play against our D-line, etc. this season?

Quick passes? Misdirection?

I'm more of a defense guy - will be interested in what some you guys who really know the offensive side of football think.

accept the loss, run clock, try to keep it under 40.

I suspect that most teams will play to their strengths. Teams that can’t pass effectively will try to run the ball.Teams that can’t run well might try to pass. Teams that can’t do either will not get off the bus!

To give you a straight answer ... the linebacker play is very important. I’m anxious to see how they play.

Real funny - I guess you missed the part.......

Counters & stretch runs to try & create daylight on run plays. RPO’s & PA passes if there’s any run success at all. Otherwise slants & slot throws to try & open a run game off the pass. Also creating 1on 1 in space on the edges. Really the only way to create consistency on offense is to negate the CU pass rush. A good TE is crucial. Over simplified here & much easier said than done against the speed of CU defense but I hope I’ve given you a little insight on what you’re asking

Quick passes to the outside trying to creat some 1 on 1 or 3 on 2 matchups. Then quick kick on third down.

Probably see some of that and all sorts of screens too.

Say a prayer request for the teams that don't have any quick passing game.

If they have any sort of option game, they'd better dust it off and run it in combination with counters, flat passes, slants and screens.

We'd better muscle up against NC State.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Especially considering they're replacing the entire D-line..***

Always shotgun play action

I see a lot of screens or up the middle behind a spy LB trying to make Tanner whiff

2 seconds in and out of the qbs hands

Run the ball three times and punt.***

Quick, short, accurate throws

Aug 26, 2018, 8:45 PM

State has given us two close games throwing a lot and accurately.

Finly is an accurate passer and put up 338 yards on us last year. The 3 receivers who caught 300 yards worth of Finly's passes are all back. In case anyone has forgotten, State had more first down than Clemson by a nice measure last year and they were driving for a tying score late when Finly threw a pick. The game in Raleigh was close. The game in Death Valley two years ago went to OT and we were lucky to win.

So.....I think State will follow the same offensive game plan. Finly will throw a lot of quick short passes all over the field. If he's accurate and his receivers catch the ball, we'll have our hands full again.

Syracuse beat us last year throwing the ball 33 times for 280 or so yards. We'll see the same game plan from 'Cuse.

Matter of fact, I think the best chance anyone has against us in 2018 will be to follow the State model. Throw quickly and try to occupy the clock and put up a lot of first downs to keep our Offense off the field. And we are thin at DB so a lot of passes will call for a good bit of rotation of our DBs, putting less experienced players in for us on defense more often.

Anyone who tries to beat us throwing long is going to get their QB killed. That is the Jimbo Fisher plan to beat Clemson. I don't know what to expect from FSU this year OR from TAMU but if either of those teams can complete a lot of short passes on us, the games will be close.

UNLESS of course, we can put up 40+ points a game. Then no one can touch us.

Go Tigers!!

Re: Quick, short, accurate throws

Lets hope we can get a lot of tipped or batted down passes against quick/ short passes. We should also be able to pressure many teams with only rushing 4 and putting more bodies into coverage.
