How physical will the CU VS Uga gm be?

Jun 23, 2013, 10:33 AM

These used to be intense. Will Clemson continue its physical play under Swinney or will the ''sec'' TEAM flex its espnmuscle?Ugag always has studs so I know we are gonna have to prove it to them.. Both qbs are highly durable.I can see Clemsons lb core win this gm..We are deep at lb and smart..Will Shuey.Kellen Jones,Steward and Anthony bring the pain?I think thats the key to a CU victory!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

About the same as the LSU game since Clemson's defense

Jun 23, 2013, 10:36 AM

will be more physical than we were against LSU and Georgia's defense will be less physical than LSU's.

Re: About the same as the LSU game since Clemson's defense

Jun 23, 2013, 10:49 AM

But UGA's OL will be more physical than LSU's was. And Clemson lost their most physical OL in Freeman.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Also, Clemson lost Goodman

Jun 23, 2013, 10:52 AM

Who dominated the LSU RT in the bowl game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Okay here you go.

Jun 23, 2013, 11:01 AM

Goodman's best game was the LSU game. Freeman will hurt but I feel confident in our replacement. I still think our D is going to be dominant without Goodman. "WE TOO DEEP" I guess would be the proper saying here.

Jun 23, 2013, 11:05 AM

A big question mark will be how well V. Beasley will be able to hold up against the run. As we all know he was a situational pass rusher last year, and now he'll be expected to be a full time player.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We will see.

Jun 23, 2013, 11:28 AM

I know for a fact he has Aaron Murray's number! If he can build his skills and continue to add a little weight he can be a great overall DE.

Keep an eye on Jarrett & Watson this year these guys will be a terror for opposing OLs.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Okay here you go.

Jun 24, 2013, 12:23 PM

Not to mention, Aaron Murray throws about 2-3 int's every game. If we can turn those into point, we should be good to win.

If CU plays physical on both sides of the ball we.win Go. Tigers!!!!!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Actually, Freeman was not our most physical lineman.

Jun 23, 2013, 11:23 AM [ in reply to Re: About the same as the LSU game since Clemson's defense ]

Perhaps pound for pound, but he played around 280-285 and required a lot of guard help against larger tackles. He was probably our 3rd or 4th most physical lineman, considering just the starters.

Re: Actually, Freeman was not our most physical lineman.

Jun 23, 2013, 11:33 AM

Isn't the guy replacing him even smaller? Around 270? Guess he'll need even more help than your All-American center.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Those numbers aren't up to date. Norton is up to about

Jun 23, 2013, 11:50 AM

292lbs and is our nastiest lineman and his backup and possible replacement in the starting lineup is one of our most physical lineman, Jay Guillermo, who's up to 295lbs.

All of the other guys, as well as their backups return for their third year in the offense.

To that point, UGA returns everyone on the two deep from last year across the OL and has over 100 total career starts between them. Point being that even though Clemson's front seven is returning a descent amount of experience up front, UGA's OL is a deep, experienced group that will be one of the best groups that the Tigers face all year.

bumps and bruises of a long season. usuc has had an advantage up until this yr. with scheduling a patsy right before us, to give them a "little breather" before playing us. check out their games prior to the rivalry game during the current winning streak, and look at ours. that bs will stop this year, the advantage, and the streak!

Re: 17 your age or iq , or both ?

Jun 24, 2013, 9:52 AM

The question is how old are you? Such a mature comeback for someone in middle school perhaps. When clempson used to win the rivalry game, we came up with the excuse that we were beaten up from having to play an SEC schedule while you guys played the sisters of the poor every week. The thing that changed is South Carolina developed depth, so don't expect a win at the end of the season, even with a cupcake to warm up with. In fact, I'm thinking Ga. will pound you guys and derail your season early.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: 17 your age or iq , or both ?

Jun 24, 2013, 12:12 PM

If you guys paid more attention on winning your conference than beating us, then you guys might get somewhere. Worry about Florida who trashed you guys last year. Also try not to sleepwalk against Vanderbilt and Georgia.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We need to be concerned most about the physicality of our DB

Jun 23, 2013, 12:39 PM

play.

Last season, our guys had trouble competing for the ball as they were, at times, ten yards behind the receiver. This allowed those big plays that Venables was adamant about reducing and getting rid of entirely.

Our DBs need to be physical and keep pace with the dawgs wide receivers and not allow those chunk plays. I want some DeAndre McDaniel style play out of our Corners. I personally think there will be a pretty big improvement in our DB play this season, not only because of the talent we have coming in, but also Coach Mike Reed.

I know a lot of the pressure could have been reduced on our DBs had we had some consistent pressure from our DL throughout the season, I have no doubt that that area has improved.

Re: Re: How physical will the CU VS Uga gm be?

Jun 23, 2013, 1:03 PM

"GA will run it and throw it at will"...

So this Mutt must think this is going to be a Jawja runaway huh??

Are you so dumb to not realize "Dawg" that there is a team on the other side of the field that has an offense EVERY BIT as good as yours?????

Tajh and Murray: Toss a coin
Your Running backs: Edge Jawja

Wide receivers: BIG advantage Clemson!
You have NO ONE that can match Sammy and it's not even close!

The defensive units for BOTH teams have huge question marks, but offensively both of these teams have weapons.

To say that just GA will run and throw at will, without at least admitting that the same applies to Clemson's offense is just assinine at best.
Quit drinking that SEC laced Kool-aid and get realistic.

Go Tigers!!!

UGA has a bigger edge at RB than Clemson has at WR. Much bigger in fact. It isn't even close to borrow your term.

Re: Re: How physical will the CU VS Uga gm be?

Jun 23, 2013, 3:48 PM

Everybody forgetting Clemson strongest point on defense last year, especially in the redzone was against the interior runs, and Goodman wasn't a key factor or showed what was expected of him until that bowl game. If the interior DL pick up where they left off. Georgia will have to look for a weakness on the corners or through the air.

UGA has the offensive firepower

Jun 23, 2013, 4:00 PM

To exploit what the defense gives them.

Both Gurley and Marshall are equally adept at punching it up between the tackles or turning the corner on the edge. Also, Murray has the arm and weapons to play a dink-and-dunk game with the TEs and crossing routes or to play home run derby with the WRs on the edge.

Bama had the number one rushing D in the nation last year

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They were the better team. No question.

Jun 23, 2013, 4:05 PM

But to say UGA was one dimensional is incorrect. Murray had a descent day with 265 and a score, while Gurley had 122 and 2. UGA put up almost 400 yards against a darn tough defense, maybe the best in the nation. UGA's defense let them down in that game, and more specifically the defensive line.

Number one nationally in scoring D, total D, and rushing D. Number seven in passing D.

Yeah. Not impressive at all.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: You're joking right?

Jun 23, 2013, 11:33 PM

5 to 6 teams within a field goal from being at number one at scoring defense. many others within a TD; not impressed. Rushing yardage few teams are about 71yds from being #1. not much different when playing 13 games to 12 games with some teams. Hope were talking overall team defense as a whole. All defenses will have some weakness, so did Bama.

Re: Bama had the number one rushing D in the nation last year

Jun 24, 2013, 7:00 AM [ in reply to Re: Bama had the number one rushing D in the nation last year ]

Bama had the luxury of playing in a league where offenses were only mediocre for most of the teams. That padded their stats. Makes them look tougher than they really are on D. Jawja and A&m were about the only teams that had any kind of decent offense that Bama played. Don't go quoting your big stats on O jawja boy against that D. I think CU would score on Bama just as easily as we are gonna score on you in the Valley on Aug. 31st.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

F BAMA!!!!

Jun 24, 2013, 6:02 AM

I hope CLEMSON has a chance to bring that HUNH offense to face Bammer....

Would LOVE to see all that cramping going on in the 4th, as crybaby Saban whines to the refs to "slow it down".

If our Defense does indeed improve, I believe we could hold our own quite nicely against that "SEC" giant.

Go Tigers!!

Re: How physical will the CU VS Uga gm be?

I don't think it will be a physical game. Both teams seem more of a speed/finesse type of offense. I think whichever team rattles and continues pressure of the QB wins this game.
