How many years do we keep Brownell?

Feb 16, 2015, 8:39 PM

How many years can we be average and still keep this guy around? I feel like if we really want to invest in basketball, we need to invest in a proven winner. I don't think Brownell is terrible, but he is just very average.

Why is it okay for you to question all things Jack Leggett but if anyone dare question Brad Brownell they are pathetic Tiger Fans? Seems a little hypocritical to me....

Feb 17, 2015, 6:47 AM [ in reply to Re: How many years do we keep Brownell? ]

We should extend him a lifetime contract since he's as good as we can get(according to some) and in the grand scheme of things, is winning all that important? Obviously based on the comments of many, we should just be happy to win every now and again since we can't expect Clemson to compete in the ACC. Another thing, we should be excited, Littlejohn is getting another $63.5 million patch job, yeah!

Then, I guess Chad Hollbrook is your baseball coach?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: How many years do we keep Brownell?

Feb 16, 2015, 8:45 PM

Let's be honest with ourselves here. Even with an incredible coach we will only be in the top 4 of the ACC. We MAY win an ACC championship when Duke/UNC/Cuse/Louisville are down. This might sound terrible but I'm good with being "average" and keep the cash flowing to the baseball and (especially) football sides of the athletic programs.

Just an opinion...

Re: How many years do we keep Brownell?

Feb 16, 2015, 8:47 PM [ in reply to Re: How many years do we keep Brownell? ]

I guess you just off the boat in 2009 because in 2008 we lost by 5 to UNC (who eventually played for a national title) in the ACC championship.

So it can be done, just got to find the right coach.

No offense to Brownell but he ain't it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: How many years do we keep Brownell?

Feb 16, 2015, 9:18 PM

It seems for some reason that the man has an endless pass, as he has somehow convinced many that he is some type of basketball genius. It starts with just about everyone on CCP almost drooling about how great he is at every breath. The man inherited an NCAA level program, that even had enough talent left for him to get to the NCAA his first year. But here we are in his fifth season and the program is nowhere close to what he took over. And yet I hear the sunshine pumper basically giving him another five year pass by saying to just wait and see what he does once he gets three or four years of recruiting with the new arena. At that rate the man will have a ten year career based on hopes for tomorrow. He is well on his way to replacing Cliff Ellis, and Dave Odom, as king of the NIT. But that OK. He is an x and o genius, and his teams just play so hard. Just wait until they are seniors and comfortable with his system.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

To answer your question

Feb 16, 2015, 9:44 PM

I hope we keep him for decades.

We will keep him for at least three more years and probably 4.

We could not attract any type of quality coach for next year, since we will not have any home games - we'll be playing in Greenville.

I doubt the project is finished on time so we'll be in Greenville for a portion of the next year.

We need to give him at least one full year in the new arena.

By then we will be hiring a new baseball coach, will be spending huge $ on the football building, so the likelihood of paying off two major contracts and hiring new coaches is slim.

Back Clemson
Back the coaches
Go Tigers!
