I was told that it is pronounced like "Dough-thit" but I've heard many ways to pronounce it.

Douthit was the name of the family from whom the land was acquired when, in the 1940's (if not earlier), the Clemson Club Hotel was constructed. The hotel would later be razed and replaced by The Clemson House.

University Hills, or Clemson Hills. When a name it Doubt it, or Littlejohn, I guess its just what you're stuck with.
