Now to the Dabo haters
If Dabo isn;t coaching Clemson how many of those guys would be down to Clemson and 1 other school?
i think the answer is easy, how many 5 star guys were coming to Clemson before Dabo was here
Not sure it translate into wins on the field for him because I still question some of his coaching abilities. However, I know without talent that he has brought in himself, there would be no chance of big wins, at least now there is a chance of big wins on the big stage

He's landed a number of top recruits.
He will lose fewer top recruits when Clemson stops losing to South Carolina and competes with FSU for the ACC championship IMO.

race is well above par. Bill's post surely was sarcasm but not sure why folks are so insistent with sarcasm. So much easier to debate at face value though

One of those which comes first the chicken or the egg situations.
Sign more 5 star recruits or beat the best teams on the schedule.
I hope they keep improving on the things that they can control...

How do we know we were second??

Not saying we weren't. We were supposedly second with Hershel Walker and Dan Marino (who would have been too slow to run the option anyway)

Clemson recruiting - quick look at numbers

Decided to go back about a decade using one rating system (Rivals). Yeah, different systems rate differently, but I'm not motivated enough to compile multiple sets.
Year...Rank...5 star...4 star...3 star 2002......23..........0........9...........9 2003......67..........0........2.........10 2004......61..........0........1...........7 2005......17..........0........6.........15 2006......16..........2........6.........10 2007......16..........0........8.........12 2008......12..........1......13...........8 2009......37..........0........7...........4 2010......19..........0........9.........13 2011........8..........4........6.........15 2012......14..........0........9.........11 2013......14..........0......10.........10
2014*.....14..........1........6.........10 *So far
2003 Swinney takes over as Recruiting Coordinator. I'll argue that by 2005 he's made his own new high school contacts and gotten his feet wet and his contact network going, etc. 2009 was an anomaly simply due to class size (absolute total listed as 12).
It may be a fair argument that Dabo doesn't maximize the output from his talent, but it seems to me unfair to criticize his recruiting prowess. At least over the last decade. If we land one or two more arbitrarily rated 4 stars (my opinion) like Featherston, Trevion Thompson, DJ Smith, etc., this class could rival one of our better at #12 or higher - probably not our peak of #8, though.
If I had a lot of faith in the rating system I'd say we need to figure out how to boost up our 5 star gets so we at least sign 1 each time. I'd rather us worry about getting a few more 4s in place of 3s while still continuing to pursue and offer 5s like we do. Putting too much energy into the top of the class players who fly into the bright lights of the biggest and most rich (in $$$) programs could be wasteful.
