How did Clemson basketball, of all teams, get chosen

Jul 10, 2019, 7:22 AM

to be team USA? Congrats to them, but why not UVA or Texas Tech or another Final Four team?

Why did they choose a team who didn't make the tourney?

I believe the selection was made before that. Possibly on the heels of the last tourney appearance. Thats more of a when than a how though

The teams are often picked a year or two in advance and we just made a sweet sixteen birth. Not a bad choice. Plus, it wasn't like the 18-19 team was a bad team, rather a good team with a bad flaw (icy 3pt shooting).

Better for Clemson, the "new" team is gelling (like Dr Scholls Gel inserts) well and I think Brad did well with getting this team to mesh. I guess he was looking forward in his likely roster and get a good invite at the right time.

I think it's awesome. Just surprised Duke, UnC, Kansas, or a blue blood

didn't get chosen over us despite coming off a sweet 16 birth.

Really awesome experience.

Their one and dones probably wouldn't play any extra games

It is good experience for the Tigers--helps build confidence.

It’s very obvious that the analyst on tnet had no say so in the Selection. They had the Tigers doomed for failure a long time ago

I stand corrected. Theory was worth a shot.

That's saying something if good Kanas and Purdue teams...

Didn't win the gold medal, but came close the last few years like we have so far, and winning it would be extra special.
Also, I'm sure a few better college programs might have decided not to participate for what ever reason and they looked at us with the sweet sixteen run. Good for the program in that happening...

Kansas actually won it in 2015, but had some very tight matchup on their way to the Gold

Purdue actually lost to Lithuiania for Silver in 2017. That was a good Purdue team too. Weird that Lithuiana didn't make it this year. They are always good in basketball...
