I simply don't see this being sustainable.

I think it is better if we start to wrap our heads around the possibilities.

All I do is cut grass and play golf so I’ll be good. Sucks not having sports though.

Won't be that long.

Mar 22, 2020, 7:46 PM

Once half of people get it it will fizzle out big time. Herd immunity will make it totally manageable at that point.

Only problem is as we develop a herd immunity to it the chances of a mutation to restart it increase. But odds are that would be a milder form. A decade from now this may actually be like the flu. If that.

Are you trying to scare me?

Mar 22, 2020, 7:53 PM

It won't last that long for many reasons, much less clinical reasons.

I would like to know the goal of social distancing/lock downs etc. What is the target? Decreasing deaths or cases per day? For how long? I don't think anyone knows that yet.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It’s pretty obvious isn’t it?

Mar 22, 2020, 7:59 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don;t think it is that obvious.

Mar 22, 2020, 8:02 PM

Else I wouldn't have asked.

One day we'll get to revisit this. I'll re-ask then. I won't get to however. Others will first.

Since there have been no targets/goals set for lifting restrictions he advocates letting it run amok . Let the carnage run it’s course and whom ever is left carry on.

Re: Maybe I’m missing your point

I'm not sure what the correct answer is for us. We have so little data on it here --not in Italy or China, or anywhere else but here--that its difficult to know what to do.

So far, according to the JH page, we have about 1.2% death rate. I have no idea how accurate that is. Will that increase? Go down as more people are tested? Go up if Wuhan style shutdowns are enacted? To what rate? What rate is acceptable?

But if we stay shut down for 6 months, much less 12-18, I have a pretty good idea what that will do to our economy.

SC should be pushing our testing out to capacity today.

Mar 22, 2020, 8:31 PM [ in reply to It’s pretty obvious isn’t it? ]

And not drive-in clinics if you don't feel well but random throughout. That data is invaluable to future containment here. More tests are on the way to back up what we have now so put today's supply to use. That's the side of the equation we want to be on - proactive not reactive.

Adding that I'm not suggesting not testing suspected cases, but put the rest of our testing apparatus to use elsewhere alongside.

Yeah, I think a year is too long to be necessary.

Also, at some point we will make the decision to actively trade some medical damage in exchange for reducing even greater economic damage. There is a trade-off to deal with and we will do the math. of course, no one will own up to making that decision, but it WILL get made.
