Really?

Feb 11, 2014, 12:21 PM

People who want to end the rivalry with USCjr are idiots. That is a great and important game that is a major part of two histories...don't mess it up please.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

true...posted it in mine yesterday or so too! CU vs USuCk

Feb 11, 2014, 12:24 PM

gotta keep that going with all the tradition & history.

let's not let money be the issue to take it all & throw it away.

i can't believe that would even be considered...?!
some things you'd just better not mess with.

If we go to a 9 game conference schedule I would be for it.

Feb 11, 2014, 12:26 PM

9 game conference schedule plus Notre Dame every 3 years...you can eliminate the chance to play any other schools in the regular season except:

South Carolina
Random FCS SC School (SC St, Wofford, etc.)
Low-tier mid-major

Feb 11, 2014, 12:28 PM

i vote we just go balls out & drop the warm-up powderpuffs and KEEP USuCk as our archenemy, plus play teams that are relevant in the process too...

would that be too much to ask...?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It is our University's goal to have 7 home games, so you

The university is not lkely to support any plan....

Feb 11, 2014, 12:32 PM [ in reply to Re: If we go to a 9 game conference schedule I would be for it. ]

that prevents us form playing at least seven home games each year.

Though I'd be very interested in someone doing some

Feb 11, 2014, 12:33 PM

advanced calculations based on numbers we don't have...

I'd wager the total revenue to Clemson hosting one huge game (see Georgia of 2013) vs hosting two FCS teams is pretty equal.

Not to mention the invaluable national exposure the one big game has vs the meaningless FCS games.

Re: Though I'd be very interested in someone doing some

The answer would be to schedule kickoff games at neutral sites. It is a single year agreement that would bring in almost as much revenue as a home game. We could play a major opponent without having to play at an opponents place.

Re: Though I'd be very interested in someone doing some

Feb 11, 2014, 12:44 PM

but that brings nothing to the town & community...which seems to be a major part of the issue.

People donating BIG $$$ to CU & IPTAY also want to go to games at Clemson & not elsewhere...& i feel them on wanting to keep home games to 7 (6 VERY seldom!!! if necessary).

more home games would be nice to me :)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would tend to agree with that....

Feb 11, 2014, 12:44 PM [ in reply to Though I'd be very interested in someone doing some ]

but what about that odd year when that huge game is played on the road and the University can't count on it for revenue purposes. If we could get one of those kick-off classic type games against a quality opponent at a neutral site in those years, it may work.

hmmmm...

are we talking neutral, as in: all over or anyway in the country or Hawaii...?! ;)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

To my knowledge Hawaii doesn't host a kick-off classic....

Feb 11, 2014, 12:48 PM

but I'll see what I can do.

if we are a good team, they'll want to play us, even @ home

Feb 11, 2014, 12:40 PM [ in reply to The university is not lkely to support any plan.... ]

but i don't see how NOT playing a "practice team" @ home & replacing it with whichever team has the nuts to play us here in Death Valley will take away a home game.
IF we go to 9 conference games it's gonna screw everything up anyways...
but i still fail to see how we lose the home game here (unless it's not every year & seldom, but CU can do some event to fill-in maybe if needed for the economy, etc...)

the way i see it, if we pic up an extra conference game, keep scu, don't schedule any warm-up teams at all, then how does it change anything? 2=2

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You'd be surprised....

Feb 11, 2014, 12:46 PM

Clemson has been trying to schedule a home and away series against teams like Penn State and Michigan for years but they will not agree to play us unless it's a two for one type arrangement.

If the acc goes to a 9 game schedule

Feb 11, 2014, 12:27 PM

we should make scar play in death valley for 50 years in a row to even things out, and we can still schedule other quality OOC

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Brad Brownell: more losses than any other coach in school history.

that WOULD be GREAT!!! then we wouldn't have to go

that place puts me in a bad mood, seriously it's a sh!thole folks...

referring to "that place" as a $#!7hole is an insult to $#!7holes everywhere.

I believe our record during that period was something like 33 - 21- 3.

Why

Feb 11, 2014, 12:35 PM

Why can't we drop a FCS and keep USCJr? If we keep winning we make the ACC stronger, and slowly but surely the bottom dwellers will gain ground.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Because every FCS opponent will always be a home game

Feb 11, 2014, 12:50 PM

If we added a conf. game, we'd lose that home game every other year

the loss of the 7th home game costs the school a significant amount of lost revenue.

When did this become a mantra to have 7 home games?

Feb 11, 2014, 1:04 PM

I mean in the past it did not hinder us. Did the merchants complain? I know costs are going up but it seems to me there should be no problem if we wanted to schedule a Big, big series for Clemson's team not Clemson's budget.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It looks to me that this has only been in place since 2006.

Not a lot of tradition there.

True

Feb 11, 2014, 12:59 PM

But maybe the national exposure and that's extra top win is the difference from a big bowl or not...idk $ signs but Clemson vs UGA national exposure and OB brought in good cash

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

After expenses and revenue sharing.....

Feb 11, 2014, 1:09 PM

Clemson netted about $1.2 million from the Orange Bowl

Plus

Feb 11, 2014, 1:14 PM

Plus the 500 % increase in people who looked up Clemson and the 250% people who visited Clemson.edu...it's hard to put numbers on these subjects but that and the tv exposure from the OB deserve sometime of monetary implications maybe?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Isn't there a state law that says we have to play?***
