That fight was a result of the butt hurt from

a) the 2003 63-17 ### kicking

and

b) the thorough butt kicking they received that afternoon

It was chippy before it started. The coots started chit at the bottom of the hill as the Tigers came in. On the opening kickoff we're blew up their return and caused the fumble. Great beat down of the coots.

You're right about that. It started when they piled up at the bottom of the hill. #### I miss Dwayne Coleman.

started the fight in my opinion from what I saw that day..mainly b/c they were losing control of game.

Of course, the pic of a Clemson player about to hit a downed SC player with his own helmet went around the World..where truth was known that same downed SC player had hit some Clemson players first and he was sent to the ground.

Whatever, Holtz cost himself (and us) a small bowl game..and was out of Cola soon enough.

GoTiGERS..keep Rocking!

The game should have been called as soon as the brawl was brought under control.

The fact that they resumed play and finished the game has always amazed me.

The outcome was decided. All that could have possible happened the last few minutes was a renewal of the hostilities.

What were the officials thinking??

All I remember was thinking I hope the crowd does not get

involved because the night or two before was when the NBA players and the crowd started fighting.

there were two reasons that fight happened....

Oct 5, 2015, 8:20 PM

1. Lou Holtz was running a rogue program that at the time had a pay for play scheme and huge academic fraud for players who didn't attend class (little known fact: Phil Petty never attended classes at SCU). And a majority of gamecock players had a higher arrest rate than GPA. Also, Lou Holtz encouraged the fight, like he did when ND players started a fight with the real USC.

2. The refs were letting the shamecocks get away with taunting the whole game. They should have been assessed a personal foul when they taunted us running down the Hill.

He is very two sided. I saw an interview years ago about the ND - Miami fight and he told his players to leave jimmy Johnson alone because Holtz wanted to fight him.
