I think Venables is a great fit at Clemson

I think Bud is a great fit at Virginia Tech. They're both excellent coordinators and I wouldn't trade Bud for your guy and I think you guys would be right not to trade Venables for Bud.

You're right. See ya in the acccg. That is if you can get past Miami/Gt. Good luck.

but for him to act like there's no way Venables can even compare to the greatness that is Bud Foster is pretty ridiculous if you've watched any college football over the last 5 years.

Or at the very least where he wasn't going. What is he supposed to say? My kid isn't going to Clemson... may go to Virginia Tech... if only he got to play for Venables.

Well, he certainly could have not said that Foster was

better than Venables.
Most level headed people would say something like "They're both phenomenal coaches at the highest level," or something similar.
To make that ridiculous claim just makes you look like a moran.

I would agree he might have gone overboard

But I think there might have been a little excitement about the upcoming announcement. I'd be willing to give a pass to a parent who said something similar the other way before their son ended up at Clemson.
They're both great coaches.

He could've just given Bud props, yet chose to compare him to a championship winning DC. Foolish and he will see firsthand now that his boy will lose the big games in and out of conference with BF and VT.

Depends on the question he was asked
Feb 7, 2018, 11:44 AM
|
|
The quote doesn't really give context to that. But if the question was something along the lines about missing out on the opportunity to play for Venables (this came from a SC paper don't forget), then it's a bit harder to simply sidestep that and talk about Bud.
The dad probably could have phrased it better. Heck, it's possible the dad may have been slightly misquoted.
At the end of the day, Bud and Venables are great coaches.

You would be correct, while Bud has been known to have really good defenses I think Venables is producing some pretty good defenses as well. I wouldn't trade Venables for anyone.

Foster has put a lot of DB's into the NFL. When it comes to linebackers though, Venables is the best.

Our defense has been better than their's for like 5 years. BV is the best DC in the country.

Foster seems to live off his D from years ago, before spread offenses. For the last few years it seems like their D has been little more than a speed bump against the better offenses that they've played.

I think BV is 2-0, and the ACC championship game in 2016 was not a blowout. The two times we beat them in 2011 was with Steele.

He's 3-0 (you're forgetting 2012), and the ACC Championship's final score wasn't a blowout, but:
- We had 10 more first downs - Out gained them by just under 100 yards - Held the ball for 4 more minutes than they did - They made a late push in the 4th quarter to make the score closer than the game was

You're right I did forget 2012.
OT but was that the one where Logan Thomas scrambled and we had somebody basically laying on the ground at his feet but who hadn't really stopped him at all when the refs blew it dead?

Time I checked D-Coordinators didn’t coach against each other. I wouldn’t trade BV for BF or anyone else but be honest, do any DC is going to have an easier time shutting down the Hokie offense than Clemson’s? Not to mention the talent gap between the 2 teams.

as much as our fan base hates to hear that because it doesn't fit there narrative that Steele is some sort of Devil, when he is actually a good DC.

Dax dad is right BV is no bud foster and I am glad he is not. BV is the best DC in CF. Dax went to VT to get playing time rather than to come to Clemson where you have to work you butt off to earn playing time. Ask bf who has kicked VT’s butt the last couple of times we have played them. And whose defense lead the way? Clemson’s!!!
And as many have said in the past if they don’t want to be here we don’t want them.
