Hey, married guys? Y'all remember what the ####

Jan 10, 2020, 3:41 PM

engagement ring costs? I heard yet another infuriating Scores jewelers commercial today and wonder if he is telling the truth at all.

$288

Jan 10, 2020, 3:44 PM

That's right, the people selling the rings.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It is kinda like servers saying tipping 18-20% is customary

Jan 10, 2020, 4:37 PM

now. Hell nah, you got your raise when when the menu prices went up.*

*I probably tip better than 15% most of the time anyway but when I hear servers cry about it I am bothered.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's more on the owners who don't pay them.***

Jan 10, 2020, 3:44 PM

They ain't cheap unless you go to Jared or something and get an 'off the shelf' ring. Figure $4k-$7k.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Hell nah, not unless several thousand dollars falls

Jan 10, 2020, 3:45 PM

from the sky. Even then I don't think no diamond ring would be involved.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

because of the question and his reply to you, it's a yes.

Jan 10, 2020, 5:30 PM [ in reply to Uh oh aero...Is it happening? ]

only the ring, time, and place remain to be determined.

I got SO lucky

Jan 10, 2020, 3:44 PM

I took my wife to the jewelry store when dating and said, "if you could have any of them, what would you pick?" She picked, I went back later and the jeweler was like, dude, you are so lucky. It was $2800. I said, HEYALL YES, wrap her up.

I did get a better stone put in, just about the best as far as the rating in the size she liked, so I ended up spending like 3900 I think.

Edit: this was a local spot jewish jeweler in Raleigh, not a chain joint.

1st one was about $3k (in 1997)

Jan 10, 2020, 3:50 PM

2nd one was a family hand me down thingy. No idea how much it cost originally, but not much if I had to guess. Engagement ring is really only good for one blowie anyway.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

MauldinT, where are you???

My wife asked me, I didnt get one

Jan 10, 2020, 3:53 PM

Then she said she didn't want one, that a pedestal ring would catch on everything and break.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes. It will cost you...

Jan 10, 2020, 4:01 PM

The rest of your life.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Less than $500

Jan 10, 2020, 4:03 PM

Wife wanted emeralds instead of a diamond. Went to a gem show in the mts and picked out the stones (3) and had the ring custom made. Picked it up the next day. I think the cabin we stayed in was more for the weekend than her ring.

Go to Walmart and get one for $99. If she says yes when you give it to her, and can go a prolonged engagement without taking it off or making backhanded comments about it, the marriage will last.

I got lucky. My in laws knew a diamond dealer.

Jan 10, 2020, 9:40 PM

I dont mean a jewelry store owner... I mean a guy that brokers from the mine to the jewelers. I got a nice diamond for actual cost of diamond and cutting.

I think the insured value of everything is like 18k.

I did not pay 18k.
