For those of you who don't want to wear purple that is your right. The military has fought and died for you to have that right, but as for me I will wear purple and support the cause.

Nov 15, 2013, 6:37 PM [ in reply to I'll be wearing my Purple during the game to HONOR ]

I don't now nor never have associated purple with the military. I don't need to wear purple for me to demonstrate my feelings for the military.

In my mind Clemson is ORANGE and white and purple but the primary color will always be orange for me. I have nothing against the other colors but I wear orange for the games.

seeing that sea of purple will put a grapefruit in my throat. You are correct on the school color thing as well. It's Clemson colors, and ONLY Clemson colors and anyone who wants to argue tradition needs to watch the YouTube video of the '51 Orange Bowl that was posted here earlier this AM where you'll see the Tigers under Coach Howard wearing Orange jerseys with Purple numbers and Purple pants on....Tradition didn't start in the '70's when folks tried to make Clemson a bland Orange and White like other schools or Orange and Navy like a ton of other schools. Clemson is the ONLY Orange and Purple school in the nation and why we don't embrace that blows my mind.

Nov 15, 2013, 7:43 PM

purple symbolizes “joint” in the military world, meaning “all services.” In the world of color, if you combine Army green, Coast Guard Blue, Air Force blue, Marine red and Navy blue, you get purple.

The military has (for all branches) Purple Camp for Kids, Operation Purple Family retreat (for families to reconnect after deployment), Operation Purple Program (programs serve military families in three different phases of military life – deployment, reintegration, and coming together after an injury), Operation Purple Healing Adventures.

Purple was chosen because it represents ALL branches.

Just saying...

in the '70's. I personally think that Orange should ALWAYS be the dominant color but there should be more Purple trim on all uniforms, especially football. It's not about uniforms, it's about celebrating uniqueness. What irks me is the total disassociation with Purple that so many fans try to do when we're the only school in the entire nation with O and P as school colors. I'm glad we are not Orange and White or Orange and Navy because with the Hill, Howard's Rock, Esso Club, DV, the Paw, etc. O and P is yet another thing that is ONLY Clemson and I think that should be celebrated instead of denounced.

to prove? This is something the University is doing that brings us all together. Everyone should participate. Purple is a school color so there is nothing wrong with wearing it.

People who are being stubborn and try to play this "I only wear Orange" crap or "You can't tell me what to wear" sound like a bunch of 5 year olds.

It's something our school is asking us to do and at the end of the day is putting on something purple really that big a deal? If your answer is yes then you have much bigger problems than what to wear at a football game!

The students wanted to wear purple and that's fine, I'm no longer a student since 1975.
Where is the same concern when there is an Orange Out, many of the students seem to forget they are the ones that asked for it.
You and anyone else can wear all the purple you wish or want to, but you or no one else will ever tell me/us what we are going to wear
May I make a suggestion to you and anyone else, if you see us or someone else wearing ORANGE be sure to come/go over and share your views in person.
What someone wears does not make them any more or less of whom they are

The intelligence/faux bravado of some posters is astonishing.

Honoring the military in a unique way is an excellent idea. Would it be unique if they asked everyone to wear solid orange for the military? No.

What's the issue some of you have with wearing purple? You make it seem like it's somehow not manly (laughable) or against Clemson tradition (does tradition have a shelf life?). For some of you to be so adamant about only wearing orange is ridiculous. I love how one guy bragged about not owning any purple - what does that make you? More manly? More of a Clemson fan/traditionalist? Seriously, what are you proving (that is positive)? Please let us know where you will be sitting so we can congratulate you on proving whatever it is you're proving - maybe you can enlighten us then on what that is!

Unfortunately, I can't make the game. I would be wearing purple for the first time to a game if I were able to make it. It seems like a great opportunity to try something unique for Clemson. Obviously, people can wear what they want, but I don't understand why anyone that had a purple shirt at home would chose to not wear it for this unique event. It isn't like Clemson is trying to start encouraging people to wear purple to every game. Clemson is, and has been for a long time, all about the sea of orange on gameday.
