Why do they have to stand there? Is it a threat to be robbed? I mean it's cool, but it's a hurricane. Go inside.

You have to go to Arlington to "get it"

Oct 29, 2012, 12:30 PM [ in reply to Unpopular post: ]

I've never been anywhere quite like Arlington.

Dude, you gotta back. You'll have a greater appreciation for what these guys are standing for. Well worth the trip.

Really, though. If their lives were in danger

Oct 29, 2012, 12:40 PM [ in reply to Unpopular post: ]

Due to extreme weather, they wouldn't make them stay out there, right?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

make them?

Oct 29, 2012, 12:43 PM

I don't think you understand the personality and commitment of these guys.

You would have to ORDER them to stand down.

These guys don't take this lightly.

I believe in 2003 during a hurricane they were told they

Here's my non-professional opinion...

Oct 29, 2012, 12:46 PM [ in reply to Unpopular post: ]

Since 1930 - the tomb has been guarded 24/7/365 even through previous hurricanes and other bad storms.

^^^That part isn't my opinion, that's fact^^^
vvv Below you can read the opinion vvv

IMO, it is representative that the military stands with and for ALL of their brethren ALWAYS, whether they know the person or not (tomb of the unknown solider). It isn't about necessarily protecting the tomb from robbers or anything, but a statement of the determination of our service men and women to never give up or back down.

Why do they guard that tomb and not the whole cemetery?

Oct 29, 2012, 12:52 PM [ in reply to Here's my non-professional opinion... ]

I never really understood that part.

Honor Guard is very distinguished unit.

Oct 29, 2012, 2:14 PM [ in reply to Unpopular post: ]

This is especially true of the 3rd US Infantry Regiment. Tomb Sentinels are elite soldiers. Guarding the Tomb of the Unknowns is something that these men aspire greatly and work very hard to achieve. When you appreciate the spirit of sacrifice, honor and tradition that these guys are upholding, not to mention the physical and personal considerations, you can then appreciate why some rain and wind does not faze them.

So, you're suggesting the guard has deserted his post?

Oct 29, 2012, 2:21 PM [ in reply to Hate to spoil a good story.... ]

Is that what you're suggesting?
