Calling stand-up comedy nerds

Feb 28, 2017, 8:41 PM

Who have you seen live and what was the best show? So far for me:
Jerry Seinfeld
Dave Chappelle
Bill Cosby (at Clemson)
Steve Martin
Charlie Murphy
Louis CK
Bill Burr
Marc Maron
Doug Stanhope
Jim Gaffigan
Ron White
David Cross
Daniel Tosh
Jerrod Carmichael
John Mullaney
Tom Segura
Doug Benson
Maria Bamford
Hannibal Burress
Dave Attell
Damien Lemon
Big Jay Oakerson
Steve Rannazissi
Elaine Boosler
Rich Hall
Best show would have to be the night in Chicago when Stanhope came out after the show and started talking to the 20 people left of the sold out Lakeshore Theater. After a while he told us to come sit with him on stage and a lot of weirdness ensued which ended with the tipping over of a wash tub full of beer that had doubled as a urinal. Seeing Burr in a 400-seat venue in Charlotte after I had just seen him at the sold out Gaillard in Charleston is a close second. And front row dead center for CK at the Greensboro Coliseum was crazy.

I've known him since he was in grade
school. Had lunch with him a short
while ago. One crazy dude who has
made it big. Expecting his second
child soon. His dad played football at NCSU back in the old days. Equally as crazy Fun guys to be around

Saw Gaffigan about 5 years ago in Savannah , he's great live . Clean humor .
Saw George Carlin many years ago , and he was hysterical . Heady stuff , very thought provoking.
Have also seen Mitch Hedberg , Bill Burr , Greg Giraldo , John Mulaney and Steven Wright .
Love me some comedy .

Would kill to have seen Hedberg or Geraldo

Feb 28, 2017, 9:06 PM

Posthumously, everybody seems to love Hedberg and rightly so but Geraldo was just f'ing brilliant.

Norm and no close second

Feb 28, 2017, 9:00 PM

Saw him at Caroline's in NYC in 95, stayed up all night at The Tunnel and then went on the Sienfeld reality tour the next day. Norm came out and told the most offensive joke right off the bat and the crowd went silent with the exception of a handful including myself.

Me Doing Standup is outstanding

Feb 28, 2017, 9:03 PM

It's a go-to. He's incredibly underappreciated. The Saget roast bit was absolutely brilliant and ballsy.

I worked with a girl who was a teen model and she spent time in NYC during part of her career. She told me a story of being invited to a party by her agency at Bill Cosbys. She said she went with another girl and the whole time she was there never saw Cosby. Later in the evening a man came to them and asked if the ladies would come with him to another part of the house.

When they asked why he said it was more of a private party. My coworker said she didn't feel good about it and tried talking her friend out of it. The girl wouldnt hear of it and went with the man. My coworker called a cab. Her friend didnt make it back until some time the next day, and she couldn't remember anything about the private party. But she felt certwin that something bad halp3ned to her while she was there.

My coworker told me the story in the late 90's and i never really bought into her story until the day i saw the story on the news. Too many detwils that she told me matched up. Sad ending to a great career.

Rodney Carrington followed very closely by Ralpie May

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Steven Wright!

Mar 1, 2017, 11:14 AM

I saw him in Baltimore with some friends in his early days(no idea who he was) and almost wet my pants. The first words out of his mouth were,
"People say I'm paranoid, but I don't trust them!"
PS One summer I did three gigs as a fill-in roadie for the Nitty-Gritty Dirt Band when they were touring with Steve Martin(who is a GREAT banjo player). They would switch who opened every night. The Band were great jokesters and just fun to be around. On the other hand Steve Martin was possibly the most SERIOUS human being I have ever met offstage. Every night he would disguise himself and stand around with the crowd outside before the show to gauge the audience and figure out what jokes to do. Once he walked up to three of us roadies and told a joke(the only time I ever him joke offstage)and it wasn't very good, but hey, it's Steve Martin, we laughed politely. He said,"No Good! Never use a fake laugh around me again! If the joke is bad I want you to tell me honestly!" and walked away. Like I said, a VERY SERIOUS guy.

Jerry Clower at the Gaillard in Chas. We also used to go to comedy zone bout every weekend, one of the funniest people I saw live was Brain Regan. Had to walk out for a min, laughing so hard. Saw James Gregory there too. Good clean humor
