Well one thing this writer is failing to put out there is the SOS of those 20+ win seasons. 07-08 Wright State's SOS was 135th...in 08-09 it was 133rd...and in 09-10 it was 131st...COME ON.. DO you honestly think that is even close to the ACC's SOS? NO. This guy better be a good recruiter because I DO NOT WANT TO SEE OUR PROGRAM FALL APART.

When you have success as a mid-major

Major programs are less likely to schedule you since you are not an easy win and the school has nothing to gain by playing you. College of Charleston used to have a tough time getting power conference teams to play them. Horizon League is solid mid major.
He managed to win and be top tier in his conference. I trust TDP.

Seriously,
Duke hired a basketball coach nobody wanted and Florida State hired a football coach that were both considered economy hires.
Brad Brownell will be successful at Clemson.

how many people on these forums stick their heads in the sand and won't confront the truth.
This is an economy hire. When has TDP gone for a coach that's done something?! No, we go for the coaches that have 'promise' and you see where that goes.

that Jerry Waineright built at UNCW or Brett Blizzard to bail him out. It's a long way from the CAA and Wright St. to being competative in the ACC. Wishing him the best, but not realistically expecting much from this hire.

He hasnt been in the CAA in years. He has however been coaching in the Horizon league which is one of the better mid major leagues out there.
This league includes a team called Butler... You might have heard of them.

Brownell .651 & Purnell .694 over last 4 yrs. Upgrade?
Apr 13, 2010, 12:31 PM
|
|
Purnell went .694 over the last four seasons in one of the best leagues in the country. Brownell went .651 over the last four seasons at Wright State in a weaker league. Did we upgrade or downgrade?
I think TDP's primary criterion was choosing a coach whose surname ended in "nell" so that he could more easily write hip-hop lyrics about his hire...
We had Purnell, but didn't go well. So I hired Brownell, to give 'em some heck.

facing better opponents on average. Clemson is a good team that plays quite a few crap squads until January. So I don't see how you can say one's better than the other.

I presented some stats and asked a simple question. You present one lame stat and call me an idiot like there's no room for debate. I always wonder how people like you get along in the real world. When your friends or coworkers say something that you disagree with, do you call them idiots? Is that the way that smart, mature, Christian people behave where you come from?

Dude... he gave some stats. You gave some stats (lame ones at best.) Safe to say this guy won't do well. But not becuae of his past, but because of OURS! We have to remember that we have one of the worst BB programs in NCAA history. Chances are, this guy won't recruit to our school very well, which means, we won't compete very well. Not much has changed. SPOT THE BALL!!!!

I am hoping the First thing Brad does is take down the two "rAtarded" (hangover) "ACC championship appearances" banners. He will certainly do two things at Clemson. Win at Chapel Hill and Win ACC championship. Might bring home all the goodies if no one watches out. MUCH better move on Terry Don's part than DABO and MUCH better move on Clemson's part than Terry Don.

Welcome, Coach Brownell! Now that we have taken care of the basketball program, could TDP do something about the soccer program. At one time both boys and girls had a national ranking. What Happened? Oh yea, the cheerleading squad too. Until this year they were ranked in the top four in the nation. At nationals this past weekend they came in next to last place. I heard it was not the squad, but the new coach had no clue. I love Clemson. Please, once we build a program could we try not to step backwards!

You guys are getting a class act that can flat out coach basketball. Brad was my neighbor when he coached at UNCW. He took a mid major, if you can call UNCW that, and frequently beat power conference teams. His team were always competetive and he managed to get players to play above their ranking or potential.
He is a great father and husband and I have fond memories of his wife pushing his daughters in a stroler around the neighborhood.
Coach Brownell will represent Clemson with integrity and will take the Tigers to the next level.
I can not think of a person better suited for the task at hand. I would send my son to play for him in a New York minute.
Congratulations Brad
