I've noticed that we have a new, even ruder invader

than the Ohioans: Pennsylvanians.
I am seeing PA license plates all over the place. The infestation has begun. They are ruder, louder, and much more what you think a yankee would be like. Lots of white framed sunglasses, Ed Hardy t-shirts, and bedazzled faded jeans.
I had to go to Summerville (lulz) this weekend, and thought to myself I hadn't seen an Ed Hardy styled t-shirt in probably 3-4 years..then saw 2 in the same day. Today at the Sullivan's Island convenience store I saw two in the same car..that had PA tags on it. I bet the Sullivan's Island cops escorted them to the SI border.

food poisoning induced diarrhea at the Phili Airport during a 6 hour layover and had to duckwalk to the trolly/tram/bus system and get yelled at by a bunch of foul-mouthed yankee trash while using every drop of energy in my body to keep from fire-hosing hot-snakes all over the place.
yea, they suck
Also, I had a great uncle from Penn. who had a wooden leg. He collected stamps and liquor decanters. He was a decent dude. RIP uncle Leon.

PA is a weird mix.

They have backwoods redneck hicks, loud-mouth Philly types, the high culture elites, and mill town poors. It's an odd mishmash pf cultural types in that state, and you'd never in a million years guess they were all from the same place.

Here's my hot take....

After they move down, they ALL think they're the high culture elites. Even the mill town poors and loud mouth Philly types. I haven't finalized my thesis, but I believe this psychological phenomena is related to the lower cost of living here. It'd be like FBCoach selling his pallet deck estate for $175k and being able to buy a 4 bed 2 bath ranch on 3 acres in Shell Bluff, Georgia for $75k. MFer is gonna think he's the king.

I love Pennsylvania. Great state with great people.

My wife grew up in Pennsylvania and I used to spend a fair amount of time working across the state.
My family is Michigan transplants and Pennsylvania is a nice combination of what I like about the Midwest and the South.

I'm OK with just tearing down the IOP connector, and making the Ben Sawyer bridge stay open most days of the week.
Just like it used to be.

you can have the mountains.

Clemson is about as far west as I care to go. Some folks love the mountains; they don't do anything for me--it gets too cold and I'd end up drinking myself to death from boredom.
If IOP turns into a PIA next summer, I'll leave. I'm just renting so I have nothing invested here. My wife got a new job that says she has to stay in SC, but we'll see how that works out over the next year or so. My feeling is they probably won't care as long as she can find an airport. If that turns out to be the case, we're moving closer to the equator.
