Unless you’re willing to go without hospitals after a car wreck or heart attack, we need a different approach. Right now, despite mixed messages at the beginning, it seems like masks are the best bet. They’re a hell of a lot better than widespread shut downs. Please wear one!

Why does it have to be a Liberal thing? How about can't we all just agree to do the right thing? It's time to work together.???

Jul 14, 2020, 11:27 PM

california seems to be having a rise in cases and they have mandated masks a while ago

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They seem to be extremely effective in making

a lot of people feel safe and a lot of other people angry.

There are over 4 Million registered Republicans in Cali.

Is your point that masks are useless against the virus or that a lot of stupid people aren't wearing them?

Point is that hardly anyone is wearing a mask in such a manner that it is effective either for them or the people around them. Most of these masks that are being used, even when worn properly are not effective for the virus. I've been wearing an N95 and I just got it. I understand keeping the pressure off of the hospitals but at the end of the day that is a futile effort. Everyone is going to get it, everyone. And there will never be a vaccine for it.

Yes, probably 70 to 90% of Americans

will get it unless we slow it down before vaccine. I think we will have something a year from now. Europe and Asia might keep infections down significantly. We are teaching the world what not to do. Let's just hope long term impact of infection is small. Nobody knows that for sure.

Around 50,000 people die each year from the flu. We've had flu vaccines for 50 years. A corona vaccine won't be any different, in the best case scenario. Only problem is that there has never been a vaccine created for a corona virus.

You seem to lack any understanding of virology.

There seems to be a lot of scientist who feel a vaccine can and will be done. Here's some information about why we haven't had a vaccine for past Corona viruses.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7177048/

"Reasons for the lack of commercial and effective vaccines for SARS and MERS are varied. In the case of MERS, it is likely that the vaccine development was delayed because of the scarcity of suitable and cost-effective small animal models during pre-clinical experimentation. In addition, it is probable that a vaccine has not been delivered because of the low interest in investing in a vaccine for a disease that has produced relatively low and geographically centralized cases (compared with other more global and persistent infectious diseases such as influenza, HIV and tuberculosis). This last factor might have also contributed to the lack of a vaccine for SARS, in the sense that it was considered pointless to continue investing in a vaccine for a disease whose cases ceased to be reported in 2004."

Are the cases in California going up because masks don't help, or because of reopenings? California has a lot of cases overall, but in terms of total cases per every 1 million California is 24th among all states. California has a total population of 18 million more people than Florida for instance, and had over 4,000 fewer new cases today than Florida did.
