Has anyone else downloaded the Clemson light app?

Sep 5, 2017, 9:27 PM

I haven't read the story yet and was just curious why it's listening and what sound is it's trigger?

My wife and I downloaded it.

Evidently, there will be a sound played over the PA system

That the app will hear through the microphone in order to sync all of the phones. From then, it could simply play a predefined (perhaps choreographed) sequence; or, if it is more sophisticated, it could react in real time to "cues" throughout the "show".

I would expect to see some visible "delays" in the synchronization given that it is sound driven, and it takes a longer for the sound to travel to the West End zone. So unless, you have to put in your seat location, or it can use GPS (which I doubt), or other location services (beacon), I don't think it can correct for that.

From what I can tell, this is NOT a CLEMSON only thing. It looks like a company or outside group has created this for other venues. It should be cool, nonetheless.

I gave this idea a little thought a while back, that would basically turn the front of each phone into a "pixel". With that, many really cool things would be possible.

You do put in your seat location, and it uses inaudible soun

sound, so it should be pretty synchronized. Also, sound travels over 1,000 feet a second, so I would not expect to see any delay that your eyes can actually see.

It will use the music over the PA system to sync the lights with all the other phones.
