Advertisers have money to waste, TV wants the money so they make up numbers regarding viewership and voila... baseball is still America’s game.
Plus, I’d imagine that corporations looking to spend money on anything other than their employees buy up tons of tickets to use as fodder for impressing money carrying contract signees.

Flashback to 2002 or so. Go to Atlanta for Red Sox vs Barves. Two rain delays so the stadium clears out. My hoodlum friends and I walk around to the rich man seats, but don't go all the way to the screen. A bit later, this other group of guys were being all loud and tried to go all the way down. Security busted them quick. Then the guard looked at us and said "Just don't try to move down any closer."
