Greenville or Charleston would probably be the best locations because they are the best 2 cities in the state. Columbia wouldn't be bad since it is in the middle of the state, but the city itself sucks.

I hope not. I think that is what makes states like South Carolina and Alabama so special. It's that bond almost everyone has with the universities in this state. I enjoy the sole focus in this state being Clemson and South Carolina. Not saying adding a pro team would take away but I'd really like to keep away with the commercialization a pro team will inevitably bring. Let's keep it small town here in this state and let other states worry about the SJW issues professional teams seem to want to dip their toes in.

I can't see it happening in the near future. The NFL isn't

going expand into SC with the Panthers right in Charlotte. Basketball and hockey aren't popular enough around here for the NBA and NHL to even consider it. There's probably some demand for an MLB team, and there's not currently a franchise in NC either, but the Braves are already relatively close and i would imagine Charlotte would be much likelier to get a franchise than any city in SC - not that i think that will even happen.
Honestly, the most likely way for SC to get a profession sports team is via MLS. Even that seems pretty unlikely, but i could perhaps see the Charleston Battery moving up to MLS in the next decade if the Charleston area continues to grow at the current rate. The type of people moving into the area also seem to be the type to embrace and support soccer.

and can't imagine any team with any sense going into Columbia. Maybe Charleston but don't think that will happen either.

I dont think so. Our minor league teams get nominal traffic. I remember the Greenville Groove basketball team. I once saw them get off a bus on Main St to a crowd of 8 people clapping. I asked what was going on. Apparently they won the whole NBA-Developmental league championship and nobody cared.

None of our cites in South Carolina have the population, including surrounding cities and towns, to support any major sports team. Most cites with a major sports team depend on the city to provide the venue and that does not come cheap. I believe the tax payers in any city in this state would decline to support a venture of that sort.

Is if the MLS connects with the USL in the near future in a promotion/relegation system and the Charleston Battery or the new Greenville Triumph win promotion to the MLS.
